**Position Background**:
As part of the Ketek’s Power Services team, the Automation Specialist will promote and establish excellent relationships and use their area expert skills to assist with, or lead, certain aspects of a project. The Automation Specialist will organize, instruct, and ensure their portion of the project is completed within the required deadline and in a safe manner. This position will also be the key technical expert for industrial automation programming modification on any Ketek or Client equipment. Innovation and environmental sustainability are key expectations in this role

**Core Duties**:

- Design and program PLCs using multiple languages (Structured Text, Ladder Logic, SFC).
- Develop and implement machine communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
- Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests
- Work with project teams to define automation requirements and ensure compliance with client specifications.
- Develop project requirements by reviewing project proposals and plans while conferring with management.
- Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards.
- Conduct system tests, debug, and optimize performance to meet functional standards.
- Assist in creating technical documentation, including system design and operation manuals.
- Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with regulation.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Consult with businesses, governments, and special interest groups.
- Research social and environmental trends, policies, and legislation.
- Successfully complete safety training as required on an ongoing basis.

**Qualifications and Skills**

**Required**
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in PLC programming with proficiency in multiple programming languages.
- Expertise in machine communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus.
- Strong understanding of electrical control systems and automation principles.
- Proficiency in software development for industrial IoT systems (e.g., Java, C++, JSON, MQTT).
- Strong Electrical Design and Control knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of oil and gas, chemical, manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure and development projects.
- AutoCAD design knowledge is an asset.
- Fluent in the English language (reading, written, spoken).
- Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
- Able to deal with the public in a positive, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and frequent demanding deadlines.
- Able to handle changing schedules and priorities, with high-level prioritization skills.
- Strong work ethic and organizational planning skills with attention to detail.

**Preferred**
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation or
- Certified Engineering Technologist (CET); or
- Journeyman Electrician with automation experience.
- Recognized technical expertise by the marketplace.
- Knowledge and familiarity with other prevailing codes and guidelines.

**Working Conditions**:
**Physical Demands**
- Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, use hands/fingers to operate a computer and telephone, stoop, and kneel.
- Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
- Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) may be required.
- Use of mechanical aids: overhead crane, forklift, pallet jack, and dolly may be required.

**Work Environment**
- Office environment (80%), Field environment (20%).
- May be required to travel to meetings and conferences.
- May be required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours.
