**Position Overview**
The Access and Privacy Coordinator is responsible for managing and processing formal information access requests and coordinating initiatives to ensure compliance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). This role responds to public inquiries about MFIPPA and assists in the preparation of submissions on appeals to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC), investigates privacy breaches, conducts Privacy Impact Assessments, provides advice on privacy compliance and risk management, develops policy and procedures on access to information activities, makes recommendations on strategy and governance, and delivers training.
**Responsibilities**
- Assess, assign, track, report and prepare responses to Freedom of Information requests made under MFIPPA, including costing, in accordance with the legislated deadlines.
- Balance the right of access with the protection of personal and other confidential information in accordance with the Acts, Regulations and Orders of the Information & Privacy Commissioner, while ensuring that specific provisions of the Acts such as notification requirements are met.
- Formulate decisions on requests for information based on detailed analysis of records and prepare formal decision letters under the City Clerk's signature, including where appropriate, information on specific exemptions, fees and appeal rights.
- Prepare submissions on appeals to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC).
- Conduct privacy impact assessments or reviews and liaise with privacy specialists.
- Provide advice and assistance to staff at all levels and members of council on matters related to MFIPPA, privacy requirements and breaches and develop policy and procedures for managing access to information and for protecting privacy, as well as protocols, procedures, forms, and guidelines for Routine Disclosure.
- Design and implement specialized training modules on the Acts for Members of Council, and City Staff, utilizing traditional and innovative training methods.
- Develop current access information for the internal and public website.
- Prepare statistical reports for submission to the Information and Privacy Commissioner as required under MFIPPA.

**Requirements**:
Qualified applicants must have successfully completed a post-secondary course of study in Business, Information Management, Public Administration or a related discipline and 3-5 years of experience working directly with the Municipal _Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act _(MFIPPA) or other related access and privacy legislation. Certification as a Certified Information Access and Privacy Professional (CIAPP) and experience conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) are an asset.
This role will communicate effectively with various levels of government bodies, City Council, City committees, staff, and Burlington residents, therefore, excellent customer service and communication skills (oral and written), along with computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) are required.
