**Summary**
The Driller is responsible for managing drilling operations and supervising the crew on-site. This role requires extensive knowledge of drilling techniques and equipment, along with the ability to optimize core recovery while ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. The Driller plays a critical role in problem-solving downhole issues and leading the crew effectively.
The Driller must possess a strong understanding of drilling operations and be able to lead a team effectively while maintaining a focus on safety and efficiency. This position demands excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt drilling techniques to overcome challenges. A successful Driller is proactive, organized, and capable of anticipating the needs of both the crew and the operation, ensuring smooth workflows and optimal core recovery. Communication and teamwork are essential, as the Driller must work closely with the Rig Manager and other crew members to achieve operational goals.
**Responsibility**
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for crew members.
- Report all safety incidents, unsafe acts, and potential hazards immediately.
- Maintain a culture of safety and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Personnel Management:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the drilling crew.
- Organize crew tasks to ensure efficient and safe operations.
- Mentor crew members and assess training needs.
- Ensure all team members understand their roles and responsibilities.
Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of drilling operations, focusing on efficiency and core recovery.
- Adjust drilling techniques as needed to optimize performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve downhole problems such as lost circulation or influxes.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping of drilling activities and core recovery.
Supply Management:
- Maintain knowledge of required drill tooling and ensure availability on-site.
- Communicate with the Rig Manager regarding tooling needs and inventory levels.
- Monitor usage of supplies and equipment, addressing low-stock situations proactively.
Communication and Reporting:
- Complete Tours and ensure proper documentation of drilling activities.
- Submit all necessary safety paperwork and reports promptly.
- Maintain clear communication with crew members and the Rig Manager.
Equipment and Resource Management:
- Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all drilling equipment.
- Delegate equipment maintenance tasks to specific crew members.
- Monitor equipment wear and initiate repairs or replacements as needed.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and efficiency enhancements.
- Foster a collaborative environment where crew members feel empowered to suggest improvements.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and technologies.
**Qualifications**
- 2 Years (or more) Drilling Experience
- Class 1A/3A License, must also provide a drivers abstract
- 1st Line
- Certification in Reasonable Suspicion & Managing Impairment for Supervisors
- Completed Leadership for Safety Excellence training
- Must have valid First Aid, H2S Alive, and other Certificates
- Sufficient language skills, literacy and numeracy skills to perform all job-related tasks
- Exposure to different drilling environments and techniques is preferred.
- Ability to work in the United States, Not required, but considered an asset
**Job Type**: Casual
Pay: $54.10 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 80 per week
