**About The CMM**

**Position Overview**
Under the direction of, and reporting to the DARFM Director, the Habitat and Impact Assessment Manager is primarily responsible for the oversight and guidance of environmental monitoring programs, habitat offsetting and banking files, and projects which foster Indigenous participation in the environmental assessment process. The Manager will also be responsible for strengthening partnerships with governmental and industry partners to ensure The CMM and its member communities are engaged in project and policy development with regards to aquatic resource management. They will develop strategies for the CMM to expand into desired service-based contracts and make connections to existing grant and contribution agreements. The establishment of these agreements and strategies will help build community capacity through reviewing and participating in the development of policies and projects that are currently being undertaken by industry participants and governmental agencies.

**Key Areas of Responsibility**
- Manages aquatic resource environmental files (energy and mines activities, habitat development and restoration, resource, and fisheries management initiatives, etc.).
- Manages fish and fish habitat restoration and monitoring projects (Offsetting projects) with groups such as: Nova Scotia Power, NS Public works, NS Inland Fisheries, Parks Canada, etc.
- Prepares and oversees preparation of reports (i.e., briefing notes, updates, technical reports, etc.) of the status of assigned files and projects for DARFM staff and CMM Senior Management.
- Leads and participates in the development and recruitment for all positions of the impact assessments and habitat development projects unit of DARFM. Recommends approval for staffing of all positions within the unit.
- Liaise with and develop working relationships with member communities, project teams, project partners, industry groups and external technologists and researchers, as needed.
- Attends meetings with member communities, government, and industry partners to discuss communities' needs and the development of new funding programs.
- Provides financial monitoring in accordance with approved budget for any assigned files and projects.
- Identifies and access funding opportunities to support the development and growth of the unit and expand its suite of environmental services for member communities.

**Position Qualifications (combination of skills through training, life experiences and education)**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in management, science, education, or a related field.
- Five-years of relevant working experience in a related field.
- Education and experience in the field of scientific research.
- Experience working in or with First Nation communities.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated passion for conservation of the environment.
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
- Knowledge of current First Nation community challenges and opportunities.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships and partnerships.
- Solid understanding of the principles of project management.
- Must have access to reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and ability to travel within Nova Scotia.

**Asset Qualifications**
- Knowledge of the environmental assessment process in Nova Scotia is considered an asset.
- Experience delivering habitat compensation projects considered an asset.
- Previous experience in a Project Manager position considered an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Two-Eyed seeing approach, social sciences, scientific methodology and/or data processing.
- Previous experience in non-profit sector.
- Understanding of issues related to the gathering and sharing of Traditional Knowledge.
- Fluent Mi'kmaw speaker and writer.
