Reporting to the Manager, People Services, the People Services Advisor is responsible for managing an assigned portfolio by providing advice, guidance and assistance to managers regarding routine employee relations, performance and attendance management, contract interpretation and administration, return to work and accommodation, health and wellness, human rights and other legislation involved in accommodation and other related matters. He/she/they monitors adherence to collective agreements, regulations and HR policies. The position responds to queries related to HR policies, procedures and practices, undertaking assigned HR projects and conducting research to adopt HR best practices.
**CANDIDATE PROFILE**
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**:
- Certification in Human Resources Management or other relevant discipline.
- Considerable related experience in employee relations and/or human resources within a unionized environment.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Employer.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the philosophies, practices and processes relating to human resources, employee relations, labour relations, and disability management.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Commission and government human resources policies, practices and procedures, collective agreement provisions, terms and conditions of employment and applicable legislations including Human Rights and Employment Standards.
- Ability to effectively administer applicable human resources programs and provide advice and guidance to managers in the resolution of HR and employee relations issues.
- Ability to analyze situations, determine appropriate courses of action, and make effective decisions.
- Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with all levels of Commission staff, unions, and government and employment agencies.
- Ability to exercise discretion, tact, diplomacy and good judgment.
- Ability to travel periodically.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
