**Purpose**:
The Intermediate Environmental Scientist supports and manages environmental assessment and monitoring projects across urban development, First Nation, oil and gas, and natural resource management sectors. This role involves project execution, regulatory compliance, and technical expertise in environmental science. The Intermediate Environmental Scientist also contributes to business development, proposal preparation, and cost estimation.
**Responsibilities and Activities**:

- Support senior scientists in creating environmental assessment and monitoring work plans.
- Organize and coordinate with laboratory and supply companies for field sampling bottles and equipment, and develop plan for the transportation of the samples to the laboratory that maintains sample integrity.
- Coordinate and execute assigned environmental assessment and monitor field programs: environmental assessments (Phase 1, 2, and 3), subsurface investigations (soil monitoring, remediation, and spills), surface reclamation (soil classification and vegetation identification), monitoring well installation, soil, groundwater and soil vapour sampling, detailed site assessments, and site remediation monitoring.
- Manage complex field sites involving the coordination of subcontractors and large equipment.
- Operation and maintenance of Solstice field equipment such as drones, testing equipment (pH/EC meter, OVA/PID, pin finder, water/level logger, GPS unit, H2S monitor, hand-held instruments, etc.), and tools (shovel, hand auger, well tape, bailer, terracores, etc.).
- Contribute to technical reports for clients and regulatory bodies.
- Maintain working knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and guidelines including: Alberta Tier 1 & 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines, Canadian Environmental Quality Guidelines, Assessing Drilling Waste Disposal Areas: Compliance Options for Reclamation Certification, Directive 050: Drilling Waste Management, etc
- Mentor and assist with the training of project staff and provide technical guidance.
- Participate in Solstice and client health and safety programs, reporting concerns and ensuring proper care of company property.
- Support business development by identifying networking opportunities, preparing proposals, and strengthening client relationships.
- Manage project resources, track timelines and budgets, and ensure quality standards.
- Communicate effectively with the project team, approve subcontractor invoices, and contribute to improving company processes.

**Education & Experience**:

- Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, or related disciplines
- Registration in relevant association and working towards becoming a registered professional
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the environmental consulting industry
- Working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation applicable to our key industry sectors
- Knowledge of various sampling techniques and equipment
- Developing vegetation inventory skills, aquatic, soil and water quality analysis
- Experience with mapping software, GIS and GPS operation
- Experience with regulatory submission and reporting programs (e.g. OneStop)
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office and Adobe programs
