Kanuka Thuringer LLP is in its 70th year of serving its clients in the practice of law. We have two offices in Regina and Swift Current. We are a 30-lawyer firm supported by a 35-person administrative staff compliment.
The Controller position reports to the CFO and is a member of the firm’s Finance Committee. The Controller is a senior manager providing support to the law firm partnership of Kanuka Thuringer LLP and its related entities (“KT”). The Controller currently has two direct reports. The successful individual will provide advice, guidance and support to the management committee and the finance committee in the financial management and business of KT. The Controller would support the implementation and transition to a new accounting software system.
- **Functions and Responsibilities**_
- The general accounting of the firm
- Trust accounting for client funds held by the firm.
- Financial Reporting
- the Cost Accounting System
- Some financial planning and budgeting activities
- Banking relationships and compliance activities for regular and trust account transactions for the firm
- Accounting for partner capital accounts
- Payroll processing, accounting and reporting
- Cash flow management and reporting
- Tax accounting and filings
- Engage with external tax, accounting and financial advisors
- Internal controls
- Preparation of annual financial statements and external reporting
- Manage firm financing
- Manage departmental staff and operations (which currently consist of two staff)
- Manage payables and receivables
- Provide senior management support to the management and finance committees as they engage partners and make decisions concerning firm matters
- Coordinate with senior managers to facilitate firm direction and initiatives
- Manage and coordinate reporting to the Law Society of Saskatchewan
- Manage invoicing
- **Qualifications**_
- University degree in Commerce or Business Administration
- 3 to 5 years industry experience, preferably in a position that has similar functional and support requirements
- Recognized accounting designations (CPA)
- Strong financial and accounting acumen
- Understanding of accounting, finance and reporting software programs
- Confidant self-starter who takes initiative
- Relationship builder with strong interpersonal skills
Pay: $85,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
