**Head Tennis Professional (Seasonal full time contractual) April - October 2026**
**Who We Are**
York Old Mill Tennis Club is a long-standing, very successful community tennis club in Toronto’s historic Old Mill neighbourhood, steps from the Humber River and the TTC. We’re a friendly, active, multi-generational club with strong recreational and competitive traditions. As a member-driven non-profit, we pride ourselves on being welcoming, inclusive, and community focused.
From spring through fall, our outdoor courts host casual play, competitive interclub leagues, clinics from beginner to advanced players, socials, junior tournaments, and junior development programs. Supported by a dedicated volunteer Board and seasonal staff, we work together to create an exceptional club experience for all.
**What We’re Looking For**
We’re searching for a **Head Tennis Professional** who brings skill, enthusiasm, and genuine love of the game. This role is all about **coaching, programming, player development, and being a positive, energetic presence on the courts.**
You will work **in partnership** with our Clubhouse Manager (who leads operations, administration, member issues, court attendants, and club logistics). Your job is to bring the tennis side of the club to life — great instruction for all level tennis players, engaging programs, and a fun, inclusive atmosphere for all ages.
We want someone who loves teaching, loves people, and loves building a thriving tennis community.
**Tennis Leadership & Coaching**
- Deliver high-quality private lessons, semi-privates, group clinics, team practices, and junior development programming
- Create engaging, level-appropriate instruction for juniors, adults, teams, and recreational and competitive players
- Develop seasonal lesson plans and structured instructional pathways
- Support team training and help create a strong on-court identity for the club
- Maintain a positive, high-energy on-court presence with members
**Tennis Programming & Events**
- Design tennis programs that are fun, inclusive, and well-balanced
- Provide direction to members around ratings and conduct rating sessions when required.
- Assist ICTA captains to rate players and help choose team members.
- Create and run club tennis events (e.g., socials, mixers, cardio tennis, junior fun days)
- Attend and actively participate in club events to engage members and boost attendance
- Help reignite enthusiasm for social and instructional events through creativity and visibility
- Collaborate with the Clubhouse Manager on the _logistics_ of events — you bring the tennis energy, they handle the operations
- Assist with club tournaments as required by the Board.
**Community Presence**
- Be a welcoming “face of tennis” at the club — friendly, approachable, and supportive
- Build great relationships with juniors, adults, seniors, and competitive players
- Foster a fun, inclusive on-court environment
- Address small tennis-related concerns (instructional or program-related) with warmth and clarity
- Collaborate positively with volunteers, the Board, and the Clubhouse Manager
**Professional Credentials**
- **Tennis Canada CP1 required** (CP2 an asset)
- Current **TPA membership**:
- At least **5 years coaching experience**:
- Experience teaching at a competitive tennis academy is highly desirable
- Ability to mentor assistant pros and build a cohesive teaching team
- First Aid/CPR certification (current)
- Two strong professional references
**Who You Are**
You’re a talented, personable coach with a passion for helping players grow. You love working with different ages and skill levels, and you bring positive energy to every lesson. You’re enthusiastic, organized in your teaching, and creative in how you design programs.
You work well with people — from shy beginners to serious competitors — and you enjoy being part of a community club where relationships matter. You’re comfortable leading the tennis vision while collaborating with others to help the club thrive. Most of all, you bring warmth, fun, and professionalism to the courts every day.
**Why You’ll Love Working Here**
- **A beautiful setting**: Coaching outdoors beside the Humber River is a daily joy.
- **A true tennis community**: Members are friendly, engaged, and excited to learn.
- **A supportive partnership**: You focus on tennis — our Clubhouse Manager handles operations. Our Board supports the entire team.
- **A chance to shape the tennis culture**: Your programs and energy will help define the season.
- **Room to bring your own assistants**: Build a coaching team that fits your style and build a lucrative program.
- **Events that feel fun again**: Your presence will help rebuild excitement for club activities.
