Position Summary
Join the City of Regina as the permanent Coordinator of Environmental Compliance in the Environmental Services branch.
You will have the opportunity to develop and manage innovative programs for potable water, wastewater, and environmental monitoring and sampling, and ensure compliance with regulatory permits. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Scientist, you'll play a key role in safeguarding Regina’s natural resources and work closely with a team that shares a passion for environmental stewardship. Key Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for the supervision and coordination of staff which may include Environmental Technologists and summer students.
Assist in the review of existing regulatory permits related to environmental performance of City owned and operated facilities and infrastructure.
Liaise with regulatory agencies as needed.
Oversee and help design monitoring and sampling programs with the objective of meeting regulatory and contract requirements and limiting risk to the environment and WWTP.
Prepare environmental reports for submission to regulators and the administration.
Identify training and personal protective equipment that will be needed to complete work effectively and safely.
Work with the Senior Environmental Scientist and Manager of Environmental Services to identify and prioritize environmental, water and wastewater initiatives.
Keep current with applicable regulatory requirements and advise management of changes in applicable regulations.
Review consultant reports and identify recommendations for implementation.
Prepare reports and other documentation for submission to the administration and regulatory agencies.
Perform environmental inspections and investigations and report the findings from these to Management.
Develop and maintain data sets related to monitoring and sampling activities.
Assist the Coordinator, Environmental Response with technical aspects of their work.
Actively participate on various environment-related organizations and liaise with regulators and peers to keep informed on industry issues and emerging trends.
Assist in budget preparations and expenditures as it relates to their area of responsibility, training, and related equipment requirements.
Assist in variance analysis as it relates to their area of responsibility, training, and related equipment requirements.
Other duties as required. Key Qualifications
Minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience.
Knowledge of municipal program development and maintenance, including the development and documentation of policies and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable regulatory legislation.
Knowledge of best practices for environmental monitoring and sampling.
Knowledge of planning and budgeting principles.
Ability to review technical documents and understand recommendations.
Ability to oversee and direct work of others.
Ability to prepare professional technical reports and present to a variety of audiences.
Ability to maintain strong relationships with outside vendors and consultants. Working/Other Conditions
Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and have a vehicle available for work usage (travel allowance is provided).
Will be required to work in the field/non-standard hours.
