**SCHEDULE**:

**SUMMARY**:

- The Senior Commercial Underwriter is responsible for underwriting moderate to complex property/casualty policies to contribute to a profitable portfolio of business. In this position direction contributions to achieving projected objectives for brokers by monitoring and controlling quality of business underwritten is required.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**:

- Manage complex requests for quotes, renewals and endorsements
- Conduct site-visits with brokers and/or policy holders to assess risk and underwriting criteria
- Consult with management in unique risk scenarios to maintain quality and risk selection outside of established authority levels
- Implement and negotiate facultative reinsurance
- Provide leadership and mentor Junior Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants
- Utilize sales and negotiation techniques to bind and retain new business and renewals
- Participate in insurance industry and broker events
- Maintain knowledge of current market and industry trends, pricing levels and policy form amendments
- Provide and maintain excellent levels of customer service
- Cultivate relationships with brokers and reinsurance partners
- Create operational efficiencies while maintaining high underwriting quality standards
- Work cross-functionally within Red River Mutual departments (marketing, human resources, broker relations, claims etc.)

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Degree in business, CIP designation or working towards and/or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5+ years experience working in a commercial insurance environment.
- Experience in all aspects of commercial lines underwriting and risk assessment
- Experience in customer service
- Product and industry knowledge
- Experience with applicable software (Sitelines, MSB-BVS Evaluator, Equifax)
- Experience placing facultative reinsurance
