We currently have an opportunity in our HR/Safety team for a Jr HR Generalist, based at our corporate office in Steinbach, MB.

Barkman has about 175 team members across four provinces (MB/SK/AB/BC), and you will have the opportunity to personally connect, as an HR professional, with individuals at all levels of the organization. Focused on a high standard of internal customer service, the HR/Safety team plays a vital role in providing a people focused work environment through our recruitment and onboarding practices, training and career development offerings, benefits and compensation programs and safe work practices.

This role is ideal for a person who may have recently finished their Human Resources Management Certificate or a person who has a few years of HR experience. If you enjoy working in a team environment, with a broad variety of responsibilities, making a positive impact in employee experience, are particular in administrative detail and numerical accuracy, and are interested in cross training opportunities in other HR/Safety functions, this may be the right opportunity for you.

**As a Jr HR Generalist, your day at Barkman may include**:

- Onboarding new hires, completing and distributing new hire forms, scheduling and presenting Orientation, and assisting the hiring manager as requested
- Tracking benefit and performance management milestones and providing leadership with the necessary documentation to complete reviews or enrolments
- Being a resource to leadership in Employment Standards, reviewing options for performance management strategies, internal transfers or promotions, providing data such as attendance reports or past performance management documentation, drafting documentation and letters, and aiding in employee investigations or conversations as required
- Providing guidance and support to employees who have questions regarding employment, concerns with co-workers or leadership, benefit or leave inquiries, internal job postings, etc.
- Collecting employee feedback as required through various channels and meetings
- Accurately maintain, and update employee records, HR spreadsheets, databases, job descriptions, and other HR documentation
- Assisting with projects such as legislation review, aligning policies across provinces, drafting various HR/Safety documents, continuous improvement initiatives, policy rollouts, and training programs
- Participating in corporate event preparations, job fairs, safety events and networking functions
- Other HR duties as assigned

This role will work out of our Steinbach facility; however, travel will be required to our Winnipeg facility and may include occasional travel to Alberta and BC. Spending dedicated time in both the office and in production is equally important to understanding the company’s functions, job roles and the various work environments. Wearing PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection when in production areas is required.
- Education in Human Resource Management, and/or Business Administration
- Experience with manufacturing or construction work environments is an asset
- Understanding of HR laws, and regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect and collaborate with employees and leaders at all levels
- Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Strong organizational and time management skills, effectively prioritizing workload and following up where needed
- A focus on continuous improvement
- Excellent computer knowledge using office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Valid Driver’s license to travel to Barkman facilities
- Flexible in work schedule to accommodate interview times, training, and employee meetings
- Interest in continued personal career development and continuous education informally and formally
