BCIT’s **Ecological Restoration Master of Science Program**is seeking a** temporary, part-time (0.2**FTE**) Faculty, Ecological Restoration**to teach ECOR 9220 - Restoration of Lentic Ecosystems (3 credits; 3-hr class a week). The position is for 4 months from January 5 to May 8, 2026. The program is an in-person program taught on the Burnaby campus.
BCIT’s Master of Science (MSc) in Ecological Restoration is a North American leader in this emerging discipline. The program provides graduates with a world-class knowledge in the science, and applied and technical skills needed to restore a broad range of degraded ecosystems. The program has been designed to advance the science and practice of ecological restoration. The new program includes two options: course-based (25 students) and thesis-based (9-12 students).
- In addition to coursework, students work with our faculty and industry partners on various applied restoration projects, thereby gaining experience addressing many environmental challenges. Graduates have an excellent track record of securing positions with consulting companies, non-profit organizations, and all levels of government, including First Nations.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Duties include teaching graduate-level courses in the restoration of the lentic ecosystem.
**ECOR** 9220 - Restoration of Lentic Ecosystems (3 credits; 3-hr class a week in the winter term)**:
- This course provides an overview of limnology. It focuses on specific aspects of theoretical and applied limnology and environmental engineering required to undertake ecological restoration of lakes and reservoirs. The overview lectures discuss lake formation and basin morphometry, stratification and circulation, water chemistry (including nutrient and carbonate chemistry), BOD tests, and hypolimnetic oxygen depletion. Applied aspects of the course include experimentally determining re-aeration rates and sizing hypolimnetic aeration/oxygenation and destratification systems, calculating nutrient-loading programs for lake and reservoir enrichment, calculating heat budgets, and utilizing nutrient-loading models to assess eutrophication risk. Students design a restoration proposal for a eutrophic winterkill lake.
**Qualifications**
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- PhD in aquatic restoration, hydrology, aquatic ecology, limnology, or a related discipline (see the course description for specific areas of expertise).
- Minimum of three years of experience as an aquatic ecologist in BC.
- Experience designing and implementing a range of assessments, including assessments of watershed, streams and their morphology, hydrology, limnology, water quality, fish habitat, etc.
- Excellent communication (including technical writing), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to work with graduate students to meet their research needs.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, which are needed to effectively manage the dynamic conditions and logistics associated with our applied programs.
**PREFERRED
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the post-secondary and graduate level in both classroom and field settings.
- Experience designing and implementing management treatments focused on topics such as river and lake restoration and associated habitats.
- Class 4 BC’s driver’s license is an asset.
- Experience guiding graduate students in their research projects and participating in defenses.

**Salary Range**
- Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.
