**Maintenance Supervisor**

**Cavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States, and around the world. We have state-of-the-art potato processing plants in Prince Edward Island, Lethbridge, Alberta, and Jamestown, North Dakota, and an appetizer plant in Wheatley, Ontario. Our Head office is in Dieppe, New Brunswick and has sales office locations in Toronto, Montreal, and Boston.**

Responsible for the daily and long term maintenance operation of the plant, MRO system, parts inventory, maintenance workers while maintaining and upholding all food safety and OHS guidelines.

**Relationship to Contacts**:
This person reports directly to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Coordinate with the Electrical Supervision and employees.
- With the Maintenance Planner plans and schedules mechanics’ daily and long term work load.
- With the Maintenance Planner plans and schedules major shutdown work.
- Completes equipment PM’s in advance to ensure correct work orders and parts are on hand for major shutdowns.
- Work with the MRO Coordinator to have essential parts on hand for all weekend and major shutdowns.
- Manages Part Rebuild, PM and Inventory programs
- Coordinates mechanics work with the production department ensure continuous operations.
- Develops, issues and supervises PM work orders to ensure continuous improvement.
- Ensures department works within the maintenance budget.
- Responsible for the actions, output and health & safety of maintenance department employees and related contractors.
- Ensure that all equipment and the building are properly maintained to ensure trouble-free and on-time manufacturing.
- Develop and maintain capable and effective employees in the maintenance functions, ensuring training and proper certification for existing and new equipment, up-to-date maintenance techniques or regulatory compliance.
- Complete annual reviews with each hourly employee.
- Coverage for the Electrical Supervisor for vacation, sickness etc
- Maintain the highest level of energy, urgency and responsiveness in regard to daily plant operations, breakdowns or incidents.
- Instill this same mind set in the hourly employees.
- Research and assist in AFE/Capital projects information and data.
- Negotiation of pricing on everyday items, substitution of product when suitable and making recommendations regarding new vendors
- Continuously improve maintenance resources (staff, equipment, inventory), process, and efficiencies against standard.
- Participate in committees as the maintenance representative to ensure environmental compliance as well as HACCP and CFIA compliance
- Oversee the security of the premises. Seeks out and applies best practices as solutions to correct deficiencies,
- Continues to examine opportunities for personal growth and industry knowledge,
- Other duties as assigned.

**Health and Safety Responsibilities**:

- Using or wearing the protective equipment designated by the accident prevention policy.
- Follow safe work procedures.
- Reporting immediately to their supervisor any unsafe conditions or acts.
- Reporting all accidents or injuries to your supervisor immediately.
- Ensuring the Health and Safety Program is implemented and the rules and procedures enforced.
- Ensuring front-line supervisors are trained and knowledgeable in Health and Safety matters pertaining to their departments.
- Participating or sending a designated representative as a member of Health and Safety Committee.

**Food Safety Responsibilities**:

- Commitment to Quality System Policy
- Enforce quality and food safety programs within the role
- Communication of food safety issues to related department and action within the role
- Active participation in food safety, food security, health, sanitation, hygiene and quality program within the role.

**Qualifications and Abilities**:

- Trade certificate
- Experience with French fry processing and a clear understanding of the steps involved in the production of French fries.
- Excellent penmanship Technical Background for identification of obsolete items, OEM part sourcing and maintenance background
- AutoCAD
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts and weekends
- The ability to be an asset to the Shift Manager on duty
- Experience working with or cleaning the equipment in wet areas of factory
- Work in a safe and efficient manner
- Follow personal hygiene rules
- Reliable and consistent attendance
- An above average knowledge of the steps involved in processing French fries
- A desire to take initiative and help
- Basic understanding of product sorting and defect removal, peeling process, cutting systems and product specifications
- Ability to keep records accurately
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent organization
- Strong negotiating skills
- Ability to work under constant disruptions
