**KEY FUNCTION**:
Deliver psychological services to adults in the Acute Inpatient Psychiatry program.

**REPORTING**:
Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Acute In-Patient Psychiatry.

**DUTIES**:

- Assess, diagnose, and treat adults.
- Develop and implement group treatment modalities, continued assessment and treatment, and follow-up within the community.
- Receive referrals from psychiatrists requesting assessment and communication of a diagnosis to psychiatric patients and their families; assessments are performed and diagnosis is made as per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders-Fifth Edition-Text Revision.
- Provide various types of individual and group therapy specific to the complex and ever changing needs of the individuals admitted to the inpatient psychiatric unit.
- Consult and liaise with appropriate resources to ensure quality care and maintain patient safety (i.e. suicide risk).
- Manage suicidal risk on an in-patient basis.
- Work collaboratively with all team members to determine, implement, and evaluate treatment plans.
- Provide formal and informal teaching to university students, psychology interns, and other staff as required.
- Fulfill ongoing education and training requirements as outlined in the College of Psychologists of Ontario’s (CPO) Quality Assurance Program to retain autonomous licensure; attend in-services,.
- Select and supervise master’s level psychology students receiving field instruction and liaise with related educational institution.
- Maintain up-to-date charting/records in compliance with HSN policies and procedures and the CPO mandatory reporting requirements.
- Complete daily statistical information, attend Psychology Council meetings, and actively participate on various Hospital, community, and professional committees (e.g. Psychology Council working groups, and patient care teams).
- Receive reports from CIHI, interpret, trend and share relevant clinical data with the Clinical Nurse Educator and Clinical Manager.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION AND TRAINING**:

- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, from an accredited university.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the CPO with competency working with adults.
- Autonomous practice license to perform the Controlled Act of Communicating a Diagnosis as per the CPO and the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in program development, implementation, and evaluation.

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES**:

- Demonstrated knowledge of all relevant acts (e.g. Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists of Ontario, Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Ontario Mental Health Act (OMHA), Psychology Act, and Health Care Consent Act (HCCA).
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychiatric conditions as per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders text revision.
- Demonstrated knowledge to perform psychological assessments, including intellectual and personality assessments, and formulate and communicate diagnoses.
- Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate client and family service orientation.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
