**Position Summary**
The Orillia Family Medicine Teaching Program Site Director(s) position is responsible for the overall delivery of the Family Medicine Residency program. This position(s) is a key leadership role responsible for guiding and overseeing the operations of the program to support enhanced learning for medical learners. This role involves strategic planning, resource management, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional teaching opportunities. The Site Director(s) collaborates with other healthcare and community partners to design and deliver high-quality learning with optimal opportunity for integration, engagement and hands on learning. The Site Director(s) must be adept at both clinical and administrative tasks, providing mentorship to staff and fostering a collaborative environment.
The Site Director(s) work in alignment with and are accountable to the affiliation agreement as set out between the governing council of the University of Toronto and Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
Term length for this position(s) is two academic years.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support and lead the Program Administrator, associated partners and residents in a manner that aligns with core organizational values and fosters an environment of growth and learning
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive curriculum portfolio for the residency program, including assessment of rotations, competencies, and educational experiences.
- Coordinate the delivery of mandatory curriculum and recruit speakers for Academic Half Day teaching sessions.
- Actively participate and support the Medical Trainee Education Committee (MTEC)
- Oversee the progress of each learner and develop learning plans as needed.
- Meet with residents on a semi-annual basis to discuss progress, feedback, rotation/elective planning, learning goals, and career planning.
- Review resident evaluations and complete final in-training evaluation reports for all graduating residents.
- Address resident administrative and professionalism issues, including chart completion, sign off of results, and punctuality.
- Provide support, encouragement, and resources for all residents and advocate for their wellbeing
- Liaise with off-service leads/preceptors about the curriculum goals and service changes.
- Ensure hospital policies and orientation curriculum is delivered as per the MGH MedEd department.
- Plan and facilitate annual town hall meetings with residents.
- Attend postgraduate medical education meetings and teach at professional development sessions.
- Spearhead resident award nominations and ensure nominations are submitted for University of Toronto PGME and DFCM faculty and resident awards.
**Qualifications**
Education and Experience:
- Medical degree (MD) and current certification in Family Medicine.
- Faculty appointment with the DFCM
- 3+ years of experience as a medical educator.
- In-depth knowledge of the PGME requirements and the DFCM curriculum.
- Experience working in a hospital and / or academic setting, preferably in a leadership role.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
- Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education.
Competencies:
- Ability to facilitate effective working relationships with internal and external customers/stakeholders.
- Knowledge of current legislation governing health care facilities (e.g. Public Hospital Act, Mental Health Act, QCIPA, FIPPA, ECFAA and the Coroners’ Act).
- Financial competency to support, monitor and evaluate a departmental budget.
- Demonstrated coordination skills to direct the activities of staff, set objectives, monitor work, and provide training/guidance.
- Excellent critical thinking, organizational, interpersonal, facilitation, consultation and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication techniques to provide written and verbal instructions.
