**As a Direct Support Professional in Response, at CLA, you can expect to**:

**As a Direct Support Professional, at CLA, you will ensure**:

- Quality of Life for people receiving services: facilitate/support people to achieve their goals, hopes and dreams.
- Belonging and being a part of their community: facilitate/support people to attend various activities of their choice in the community. ie. - Volunteer opportunities, education, employment, recreational activities etc.
- Relationships: facilitate/support people to have meaningful relationships in their life, connecting people to their neighbours, developing/enhancing/providing opportunities to make friends. Health and safety and well-being of people receiving services: including, but not limited to medication/treatment administration.
- Personal Support: including, but not limited to: partial to full support for a person's personal hygiene/personal care, lifting, transferring, & attending medical appointments in the community.

**DUTIES**:

- To support, within a team environment, people with an intellectual disability, potentially with a co-existing mental health concern, who are experiencing an unexpected emergency situation, requiring immediate direct support (within 24 hours).
- Staff can expect to use a biopsychosocial, humanistic, person centered approach to walk alongside people, reduce the stressors they are experiencing as much as possible, and assist them with adaptive skills to get back to living the life they want to live.
- Staff are expected to be prepared to respond to urgent situations as directed by management.
- Staff will directly support individuals, and work with their team to assist in establishing supportive routines, assist management with the development of supportive strategies, assist with determining the level of support required, and support the transition to permanent supports where needed.
- Staff will be expected to actively participate with their management team the development of risk assessments, life stories, and support strategies for people supported.
- Staff in this role will also be prepared to walk alongside other staff where needed to assist in urgent/crisis situations across the organization as directed by management.
- Due to the nature of this role, staff schedules will change quickly and often to address urgent/crisis situations.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Diploma in Human Services
- Two years direct support experience in a community-based setting, or the equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Valid first aid and health requirements as outlined in the Social Inclusion Act and CLA Policies and Procedures.
- A valid driver's license and maintenance of an acceptable driving record is required.

**RATE OF PAY & HOURS OF WORK AVAILABLE**
- $26.87/hr
- Temporary Full Time - 40 hours weekly
- Required to Work Day, Afternoon, and Night Shifts
- Expected to Work on _Weekdays, Weekends and Statutory Holidays_
- Expected to Work Every Weekend
