- Assume responsibility for day to day supervision of Pharmacy Technicians including development, performance evaluation and maintenance of the schedule as well as equitable distribution of workload and be able to effectively problem solve, prioritize and organize workload
- Assist the Pharmacy Operations Manager in planning day-to-day activities of Pharmacy Technicians to deliver safe and efficient drug distribution in the hospital
- Ensure Pharmacy Technicians have the resources required to perform tasks in an efficient and safe manner in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Review, update and maintain all Pharmacy Technician task descriptions related to drug distribution within the medication management system
- Liaise with other healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to ensure the safe and timely delivery of medication to ensure excellent patient care and customer service
- Assist the Pharmacy Operations Manager in the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures for unit dose, prepackaging, drug distribution, patient specific medications, narcotic and controlled drugs, sterile and non
- sterile compounding and all other areas as assigned as well as develop certification
- Assist the Pharmacy Operations Manager in organizing Pharmacy Technician meetings for the purpose of communicating changes in policies and procedures, reviewing medication incidents as well as providing a forum for Pharmacy Technicians to discuss concerns and issues
- Assist the Pharmacy Operations Manager in assessing financial/budgetary considerations in drug distribution. This may include comparing existing vs. potential changes to drug distribution (e.g. assessing cost-benefit implications of internal CIVA compounding against outsourcing to external vendors) and reviewing stocking levels of medications to minimize wastage/cost
- Participate in the coordination of research/trials medication distribution activities as well as maintenance of trial medication records
- Coordinate audits related to drug distribution and preparation (sterile and non-sterile) for pharmacy technicians.
- Ensure Pharmacy Technicians are compliant with all current federal and provincial regulations (e.g. Ministry of Labor, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and regulations, PHIPA, Workplace Violence and Prevention)
- Collaborate with the Pharmacy Lead Automation Technician and service contract providers to schedule equipment maintenance and perform training or problem solving with respect to pharmacy related technology.
- Review medication incident reports in the incident reporting system and follow up with individual Pharmacy Technicians regarding incidents.
- To complete audits, testing (yearly certification) and follow-up required to meet regulatory guidelines pertaining to sterile and non-sterile compounding (e.g. NAPRA and OCP standards).

- Able to mentor, coach and evaluate Pharmacy Technicians and students and assist with the scheduling of Pharmacy Technicians and Students to maintain adequate staffing levels within the budget
- Demonstrate strong focus on patient and staff safety, professionalism, and ethics
- Takes initiative and able to work independently and collaboratively as part of the Pharmacy Leadership team as well as other members of the healthcare team including physicians and nurses
