**About the role**
The Medical Case Manager is a medical professional that applies their clinical expertise within an office setting to guide and manage medical emergencies worldwide. Canadian travellers who experience a critical illness/injury are relying on the Xodus Case Management team to work with their health care providers to ensure they receive appropriate medical treatment based on their policy benefits. You will work together with our Case Coordinator team and Medical Directors to ensure that patients are able to access care they need, remove financial barriers to receiving treatment, and to coordinate with our medical transport partners to bring them home safely.
**What you'll do**
- Review situational and clinical information to assess case severity.
- Communicate with health care providers (physicians, nurses, case managers) globally to establish a clinical picture.
- Review and analyze clinical documents to inform case strategy.
- Preauthorize medical treatment based on a patient’s emergency medical policy benefits.
- With support from Xodus’ Medical Directors and in collaboration with treating health care providers, determine if a patient can be transported home.
- Support team members with plain language explanations of the case plans, based on policy wording and the clinical scenario.
- With support from Xodus Medical Directors and partners, guide the evacuation of critically ill/injured patients to a higher level of care.
- Continuous self-development via industry training, continuing medical education and other courses.
**The skills you bring**
- Degree in clinical studies or relevant equivalent work experience. This includes but is not exclusive to a degree/diploma in Nursing, Medicine, Paramedic Program, Transport Medicine, or other relevant clinical studies.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a high acuity clinical setting (emergency services, acute hospital care, critical care).
- Active membership in a professional licensing organization, if applicable (ex. CNO, OPA, etc.).
- Proficiency in a second or third language (Spanish, French, etc.) is an asset.
- Knowledge of US and/or international health care systems is an asset.
