Under the direction of the Director of Care, the BSO RPN is responsible and accountable for providing optimum care to promote the well being of each individual resident. Participates in the delivery of nursing services to meet the assessed needs of the residents. Deliver person-centered care which recognizes both the uniqueness of each person and an awareness of one’s own contribution to that relationship, including personal attitudes, values and actions. Assessment and intervention including, conducting assessments and interventions with respect to the behaviours of persons.
**The following traits and qualifications are required**:
Must possess a PSW Certificate Program with a minimum of 600 hours in duration; counting both class time and practical experience or is a grandfathered PSW that meets the requirements under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation ss. 52/22 (1);
or a person who is enrolled in an RN or RPN educational program; or who has a diploma or certificate granted in another jurisdiction resulting from a program that was a minimum of 600 hours in duration; and in the opinion of the Director of Nursing has adequate skills and knowledge to perform the duties of a PSW that meets the requirements under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation ss. 52/22 (3).
Must have a demonstrated knowledge of dementia, delirium, mental health issues in the delivery of care and its effect on the person and family members or partner in care, to include knowledge of:
most prevalent types and related causes
disease processes, stages and progression
diagnostic and assessment process
cognitive or neurological symptoms
current treatment interventions
communication skills appropriate to needs of the person
strategies to promote optimal quality of life
experience of disease from the perspective of the person, family members or other partners in care.
Possess GPA Certification
Possess U-First and Palliative Care Certification
Demonstrated evidence of excellence in communication skills
Demonstrated active interest in ongoing education
Prior experience in long term care (gerontology) is an asset
