As the largest municipality in Waterloo Region, Kitchener continues to be poised for development and growth, enhancing its reputation as a leader in city-building and innovation, with nationally recognized strategies to build its neighbourhoods, its digital infrastructure and its diverse economy.The **City of Kitchener** is WHERE you want to work Learn more about the top reasons to join us: **Why work at the City of Kitchener** Position Overview:As a Database Administrator, you are: - A Team Player- You understand that relationships take work. - You build trust by doing what you say you will. - You are a collaborative team player able to work across roles, teams, departments and with external agencies and partners. - An Innovator- You ask thoughtful questions. - You are not afraid to put new ideas on the table. - You can spot opportunities to do things differently. - An Agile Problem Solver- You have a positive attitude with a strong work ethic and high attention to detail. - You are a strategic thinker that can see beyond the day-to-day grind to help reach strategic goals and improve the customer experience. - You have effective time management skills and the ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure. - You are an ace troubleshooter who can quickly identify and propose workarounds to issues. - You might be interested in this role if: - You are looking to work on collaborative team. - If you are willing to take on new challenges in an ever-changing environment. - You have an aptitude for learning about new technologies and methodologies. **Responsibilities**: - Ensures the effective management of the City’s data and information resources. - Designs, develops, and implements database operational standards, and procedures to ensure optimal database performance and integrity. - Monitors and allocates resources to optimize the database performance. - Implements database security and access policies; ensures the integrity and security of databases and database servers. - Ensures policies and procedures are in place for disaster recovery to ensure effective protection and integrity of all data assets. - Responsible for data archiving as required in accordance with policy, storage limitations and performance considerations. - Provides user support for data collection, reporting and analysis. - Monitors and ensures license agreement compliance. - Provides database services to other TIS staff and other departments across the City. - Keeps up-to-date of new or converging technologies. - Perform other related duties as assigned. **Requirements**: - 3 year college diploma or university degree. - Minimum 4+ years of experience in database administration. - Thorough understanding of database administration methodologies. - Extensive knowledge and experience in database monitoring and analyzing performance usage and re-allocating resources to optimize database performance. - Proven ability to design and implement system integrations. - Extensive experience working with Oracle RDBMS, SQL, additionally knowledge of Python would be preferred. - Experience working with VMware. - Comfortable working in a Linux environment. - SAP basis experience would be considered an asset, including performing SAP upgrades, knowledge of PI/PO, Solution Manager, Hana, BOBJ, understanding SAP security principles, proficient in system monitoring and troubleshooting. - Excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with user groups and technical staff. - Strong ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively to deadlines - Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record. - Must have the ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
