Floor Worker

**INTRODUCTION**

The Refuge is a Christian not-for-profit community called to show Jesus Christ’s love and kindness to the youth of our community through practical and compassionate means of intervention and prevention. While we offer programs that meet basic needs (food and clothing), our real purpose is to create a community where youth experiencing homelessness can come to be loved, nurtured, encouraged, be safe and find a place to belong... a community in which youth can encounter Christ and find healing.

The Refuge is currently seeking to fill the position of Floor Worker. The Floor Worker is responsible for providing a warm, caring and safe place for the youth who come as they attend drop-in style programs of The Refuge.

In addition to the above, the Floor Worker will also be interacting directly with the homeless, street, at-risk and struggling youth that call THE REFUGE their home. The Floor Worker will be in a position to encourage and model positive life changes, support, referrals, encouragement and compassion to these youth. Thus, the Floor Worker position is important in assisting homeless and street youth make positive and lasting life changes. The Floor Worker position is an entry level position.

**QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS**:
The Floor Worker position requires clear leadership qualities with a strong self initiative and willingness to accept accountability, to work with little guidance, to project an image of professionalism, to be an example to others, to be a good Christian witness and to be supportive of the whole team.
- Provide a police background check.
- Should have appropriate educational experiences either by formal training or by informal life experiences. Ideally the position requires a person with a degree or diploma in Social Services, Liberal Arts, CareGiving and/or life experience in a floor worker style role.
- Should be open to constructive criticism and be able to provide professional feedback and evaluations in areas of responsibility.
- Must demonstrate a mature level of professionalism in all areas of their work environment.
- A level of creativity is required to generate new ideas, proposals and procedures.

**DUTIES**:

- To implement programs and activities in accordance with the mission, vision and values of The Refuge as directed by the Floor Manager.
- Oversee the promotion, set-up, clean up and facilitation of appropriate programs and activities as directed by the Floor Manager.
- To provide timely feedback to staff and volunteers regarding programs, objectives, and youth.
- Develop forms and records to document the collection and recording of daily data and statistics regarding usage of programs as requested.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to the youth.
- Be available to interact with youth that come to The Refuge with the purpose of assisting youth with issues and problems. In addition, assisting youth in securing identification, searching for housing, providing referrals, advocate during appointments, etc.
- Provide referrals to other community services, groups and/or organizations that can assist the youth in addressing their personal needs.
- To provide back-up to other staff and volunteers as requested and required.
- Assist with other special programs and events as requested.
- Other duties may be assigned as it relates to the organizational objectives of The Refuge.

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
