The successful applicant will be an integral part of the Finance Case Costing team providing leadership in analysis, interpretation and recommendations to improve clinical, and financial results. The Senior Advisor will identify the most appropriate data elements, data sets and analytical methods required to solve problems of strategic interest. This includes the ongoing development of patient specific costing data and the integration and reporting of MIS statistical data requirements. The successful applicant will ensure the accuracy, validity, consistency, and timeliness of case costing and MIS statistical data used for submission into the Ministry. They will utilize their expertise in both Finance and Statistics to support, guide and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. The position will provide value added analyses and interpretation to guide evidence based decision making, financial accountability, operational and strategic planning, as well as facilitate knowledge translation and exchange with all stakeholders.
The incumbent will demonstrate a strong commitment to the NH's purpose, vision, and values; and will develop and maintain positive relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and act as a resource to all areas within the Finance portfolio and clinical/support departments in matters related to case costing. The incumbent must demonstrate strong analytical and prioritization skills in a fast paced and deadline driven environment. An energetic, strategic thinker with the ability to see beyond the numbers, this role requires a creative individual who can exert an innovative style with solid business judgment.
**JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Responsible for the maintenance and analysis of processes for the Ontario Case Costing (OCC) submission including the collecting, preparations, integration and reporting of financial and statistical data requirements
- Ensure the collection, accuracy and reliability of MIS statistical and workload data in accordance with MIS reporting standards
- Integrate clinical, financial, and statistical information for stakeholders who require data to support evidence-based decision-making as it relates to all activities of Niagara Health using data visualization skills, tools, and techniques to communicate findings in a meaningful, effective, interesting, and understandable format.
- Manage data expectations and needs, analysis, and presentation of case costing and MIS statistical data
- Identify data integrity issues by developing and implementing audit protocols and coordinating the resolution of issues.
- Develop and enhance reporting strategies and processes for internal & external stakeholders to ensure transparency and traceability of case costing and MIS statistical reporting.
- Mentor and advise junior analysts in case costing department
- Assist with various ad-hoc projects as requested
**JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- University Degree or Masters in Health Informatics/ Health Administration or related field and/or a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA)
- Minimum of 3 years of Hospital Experience in Finance and/or Decision Support
- Previous experience with Case Costing or Cost Accounting an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Health Information Standards (MIS/OHRSand MIS certificate preferred), Ontario Case Costing methodology, and hospital Funding methodologies is an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of hospital clinical datasets commonly used to inform decision making is an asset
- Advanced computer skills specifically in the use of Excel, Power Point, various report writers or statistical packages is strongly encouraged (eg. SAS, Crystal).
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a diversified workload, multiple tasks concurrently, and meet multiple and competing deadlines in a time-sensitive environment
- Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with mínimal supervision
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent decision-making skills, with the ability to form/defend independent judgment and use critical thinking and analytical skills when assessing challenging tasks.
- Ability to take a creative and proactive approach to problem recognition, solving and resolution
- Consistent and regular attendance required.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
