About You / What We Are Looking For

The Parks Planning Project Manager will report to the Parks Planning and Design Manager and oversee a team of unionized Parks Planning staff. In this role you will support the development and design of parks, working frequently with internal and external partners such as developers, consultants and contractors to support the expedited delivery of new livable, resilient and inclusive parks and open spaces. The work in this role will require excellent project management, technical design and detailing skills to ensure park elements are given care and attention, from preliminary stages through to completion. This is a collaborative team that manages a high volume of work and regularly liaises with many counterparts across the City to support a growing community.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and with internal and external contacts and authorities.
- Ability to work independently and exercise considerable judgement on issues of a complex or sensitive nature.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence, and liaise effectively with colleagues, members of the public and external agencies including report writing, meeting facilitation and the ability to prepare and present powerful public presentations to the public, City Council and Council Committees.
- Proven track record leading complex open space projects and effectively managing project issues.
- Significant experience administering public engagement processes.
- Experience managing staff teams in a unionized work environment including coaching, mentoring, and performance reviews.
- Advanced research, analytical and problem solving skills, with an ability to identify improvements for existing parks infrastructure.
- Advanced levels of business acumen and critical thinking skills to identify risks and leverage opportunities when representing the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department on various matters that impact the public.
- Experience working within other public sector organizations and external stakeholders will be considered an asset.

Minimum Qualifications

What We Offer:
This excluded position has an annual salary range of $122,343 - $137,618. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in a flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, hybrid work options available.
