PPM Civil Constructors, ULC (PPMCC) is a general marine contractor serving clients in British Columbia. The Company specializes in complex construction by utilizing varying modes of project delivery while often operating in harsh environments found in remote locations. Our work consists of building marine infrastructure such as docks, wharves, jetties, breakwaters, outfalls, intakes, and floats, as well as environmental dredging and capping. **Position Summary**
We are looking for a skilled Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) Manager I who will provide leadership by strengthening our growing injury-free culture.
Reporting to PPMCC’s Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental, the HSE Manager I will plan, develop, and implement Health, Safety, & Environmental programs by providing technical assistance in the identification, evaluation, and control of workplace hazards, and assist in evaluating risks associated with new project opportunities or processes.

- Ability to strengthen and maintain a strong stratified safety culture.
- Assist in the development of Health & Safety training programs with measurable goals and objectives.
- Be able to work independently and lead in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ensure safety goals are achieved on every project.
- Lead Health & Safety compliance audits on project work sites.
- Lead incident investigations including reporting, documentation, and follow up requirements.
- Assist in the generation and implementation of corrective actions.
- Educate employees in safe work practices and have all resources necessary for employees to work safely while maintaining a positive attitude towards safe work practices.
- Positively work with all site craft
- Embrace the Principles of PPMCC
**Position Duties**:
- Create a positive working atmosphere that promotes openness and a high level of enthusiasm and morale in the field.
- Advise the Leadership Team on Health & Safety issues related to new/existing business to ensure compliance.
- Recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
- Ensure site posting of all safety bulletins, safety posters, safety rules, and applicable legislation.
- Perform safety training for supervisors and field employees, and mentors’ staff as needed.
- Develop site-specific safety plans, schedule jobsite visits, and conduct safety audits.
- Develop and implements training programs, procedures for root cause analysis, and incident investigation protocols.
- Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee practices through site visits, safety plans, and education of all supervisory personnel.
- Identify target areas of opportunity for Health & Safety improvement in coordination with the leadership team.
- Develop positive relationships with client safety professionals.
**Direct Position Requirements**:
- 3-5 years of experience in general construction with emphasis on oil/gas, maritime construction, heavy civil construction, and/or industrial safety.
- Knowledge of WorkSafe BC rules and regulations,
- Knowledge in claims management to WorkSafe BC guidelines,
- Knowledge of behavioral-based safety principles and practices, and
- Knowledge of Risk Management loss prevention methods.
- Occupational Health & Safety training and/or certifications.
- National Construction Safety Officer designation complete or in process.
- CRSP Certification is considered an asset.
- Must have a valid Level 3 Occupational First Aid certificate from a WorkSafe BC recognized training provider.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Experience training in both classroom and construction site environments.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required to operate company vehicles.
- Willing to travel to project worksites.
- Drug and Alcohol Testing may be a project specific requirement.
