- **Key Duties &Responsibilities**_
- Operating manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other machine tools to produce metal parts and components.
- Calibrating, setting-up, drilling, tapping, and fly cutting using endmills, drills, taps, reamers, radius cutters, and so on according to issued drawings.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
- Planning machining through blueprints, engineering plans, and specifications.
- Manually setting-up mills by installing vices, fixtures, tools, machine workpieces, and attachments.
- Using measuring tools such as micrometers, verniers, height gauges, bore gauges, and so on—to a tolerance of plus or minus.001 inch.
- Calculating the dimensions needed for the job and inspecting the workstation to ensure the equipment is in working order; ensuring that tool settings remain within tolerances and adjusting the controls to correct when variations appear.
- Maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, adding/mixing coolant, and topping-up oils according to manufacturers’ instructions.
- Checking that finished workpieces meet all specified dimensions and tolerances as outlined on given drawings; verifying settings and maintaining part specifications by careful measuring.
- **Qualifications**_
- Five years conventional manual mill operating experience is required.
- Secondary school diploma required; college diploma in a relevant field is an asset.
- Manual dexterity and exceptional hand-eye coordination.
- Proficiency with shop math and understanding geometrical tolerances, reading drawings, specifications, and measurements.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to obtain a crane and/or forklift license.
- Ability to work independently and to lift 40-50 lbs. unassisted.
