Course number and title: LAS 302 H1 S: Topics in Latin American Studies - Beyond the Playing Field: Sports, Power and Politics in Latin America

Course description: An interdisciplinary seminar that examines how athletic events have intersected with politics, culture and identity across Latin America and analyzes the role of sports in shaping national identity, power dynamics and social movements in the regions - with emphasis on genre and feminist concerns as well as social justice issues.

Class Schedule: Tuesday, 17:00 - 19:00.

The delivery method for this course in currently in person. Please note that, in keeping with the public health advisories, the course delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty of Arts & Science.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 to April 30, 2025

Preferred qualifications: Experience teaching interdisciplinary university courses on genre and/or social justice. Record of research publications on genre / feminist issues in Latin America.
