**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Health Promotions Coordinator (HPC) supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that promote student health, wellness, and success at Ontario Tech University. Rooted in student development theory, social determinants of health, and evidence-based practices, this role integrates equity, inclusion, belonging, and cultural competence into all initiatives.
Reporting to the Manager, Student Engagement and Equity, the HPC collaborates with students, staff, faculty, and community partners to design and deliver impactful educational programs, workshops, and events that support student engagement and foster a healthy campus community. The role involves facilitating workshops, campaigns, and events, engaging students in leadership and peer support initiatives. The HPC works across the university to identify and address health-related behaviors, foster partnerships, and deliver accessible, inclusive programs that support student wellness and enhance the university experience.
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Program Coordination and Leadership:
- Collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to create programs that address campus health and wellness needs
- Coordinates logistics for programs and events, including booking spaces, speakers, and necessary resources
- Oversees the promotion, delivery, and evaluation of workshops, wellness events, and peer-led initiatives
- Supports management of the health promotions budget to maximize resources and program impact
- Recruits, selects, trains, and supervises student volunteers, placements, and work-study participants
- Coordinates professional development opportunities for student leaders engaged in health promotion initiatives
Content Development:
- Oversees and facilitates workshops, campaigns, and programs that address transitional periods, peer support, and student development
- Supports the development of accessible, inclusive content that uses universal instructional design principles
- Regularly reviews and updates program content to reflect emerging trends and student needs
Committee Participation and Community Engagement:
- Represents the university on health and wellness committees, including public health initiatives and pandemic planning
- Builds partnerships with community organizations such as Durham Region Health Department to enhance health promotion strategies
- Serves as a resource and advocate for student health and wellness on campus
Assessment:
- Develops and tracks program metrics to measure student engagement and wellness outcomes
- Conducts needs assessments and utilizes data to identify priorities for health promotion activities
- Prepares reports and makes recommendations to improve programming
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education**:
- **Completion of a three year degree in Public Health, Health Promotions, or equivalent
**Assets**:
- First Aid, CPR, Mental Health First Aid, SMART Serve, courses related to: substance abuse, adult education/student development, non-violent crisis intervention, and public health
**Experience**:
- **1 to 3 years of experience with program delivery with an emphasis on project and program development and design in a post-secondary environment
**Knowledge**:
- **Understanding of learning pedagogy, adult education, curriculum development, student development theory, leadership development; and assessment practices in student affairs
- Incumbent must have an understanding of distinct needs of various groups of students, including LGBTQIA+ and racialized students
**Skills**:
- **Strong program planning, coordination, and delivery skills, with an emphasis on outcomes-based initiatives
- Proficient in utilizing technology and social media to engage with students and support communication
- Effective at advising, guiding, and coaching student staff and volunteers to develop leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, building strong relationships with stakeholders
- Experienced in managing budgets, monitoring financial resources, and maintaining confidentiality
- Skilled in facilitation, time management, and managing multiple projects with strong organizational abilities
- Excellent judgment, adaptability, and communication skills, promoting inclusion and belonging
