The Department of Indigenous Learning Services has an opening in the listed consultant positions. In this position, the successful incumbent will lead Division initiatives advancing the Truth and Reconciliation’s 94 Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples by providing comprehensive expertise to support Truth and Reconciliation strategies and implementation across the Division. The position develops and executes plans for Truth and Reconciliation that includes resources and staff development opportunities. The position provides on-site assistance and advice to school administrators and school staff in the implementation of Truth and Reconciliation strategies and collaborates with the Learning Services Department to support Division Truth and Reconciliation goals, priorities, projects, and initiatives.

Indigenous Learning Services Consultants provide leadership and support to schools in the delivery of programs and services mandated by Alberta Education that focus on teaching and learning. Indigenous Learning Services Consultants are required to keep current with pedagogical research and integrate theory into teaching practice. Consultants will demonstrate a commitment to permeating the Catholic faith into curriculum, instruction, programs, and staff development.
- Alberta Teacher Certificate;
- Lived experience in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing;
- Strong leadership and consultation skills, and the ability to establish rapport and trust in working relationships;
- Superior verbal and written communications skills to facilitate difficult conversations and navigate highly challenging situations that have the potential to escalate quickly;
- Advanced problem solving, assessment and analytical skills;
- Knowledge of wise practices in Indigenous Education;
- Knowledge of resource and program development, project management techniques, principles and practices;
- Knowledge of group management and facilitation techniques and principles;
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to relate to a varied audience;
- Demonstrated time management, planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize responsibilities;
- Understanding of Alberta Program of Studies of supports available for Indigenous students and families at the school, Division, and community level;
- Demonstrated ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and sectors in a positive manner.

**Responsibilities**:

- Support whole school approaches to capacity building in Truth and Reconciliation
- Coordinate and guide Truth and Reconciliation cohorts
- Support implementation of school and Division events and initiatives focusing on Truth and Reconciliation
- Support Division in advancing Truth and Reconciliation
- Promote a strength-based approach in the Division’s work with Indigenous Peoples
- Support engagement with parents, guardians, families and community organizations to advance Truth and Reconciliation
- Share Indigenous lived experience and knowledge
- Support teachers and administrators in wise Truth and Reconciliation practices including curriculum and program implementation.
- Develop resources to support staff and student learning recognizing Indigenous ways of knowing, doing and being
- Collaborate with teachers and Learning Services in the use of the programs of study to provide opportunities for all students to see themselves reflected in their learning materials and opportunities
- Work with stakeholders to provide a safe and inviting environment for Indigenous students
- Develop and maintain relationships with families, students, community agencies and other stakeholders
- Advise staff across the Division on a range of Truth and Reconciliation topics
- Mentor lead teachers in wise practices relating to Truth and Reconciliation
- Facilitate conversations and learning opportunities including teaching circles
- Provide guidance and expertise to students and families
- Advise staff on cultural, spiritual and wellness practices
