THERE IS NO GUARANTEE OF MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM HOURS PER WEEK. HOURS WILL BE BOTH SCHEDULED "AS NEEDED" AND ON AN "ON-CALL" BASIS. THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE WEEKEND, EVENING AND HOLIDAY WORK. CANDIDATES MUST RESIDE WITHIN AN HOUR OF KINGSTON DUE TO THE ON-CALL, CASUAL NATURE OF THIS POSITION. Under the general direction and supervision of the Court Services Supervisor, assume all duties related to the security and transportation of prisoners, security of courts, the service of summons, subpoenas and other related documents, and other duties as may be assigned. Variable shifts, evening and weekend work is required and will be assigned. The position may be assigned duties that are either predominately security/transportation of prisoners or administration responsibilities dependent upon organization requirements. We are committed to achieving our vision of being among the most progressive, efficient and effective community-oriented police services by developing, supporting and engaging our members. **Responsibilities**: - Liaise with Corrections Canada and other holding facilities for the transfer and care of prisoners - Liaise with the crown, city prosecutors, outside police agencies as well as members within Kingston Police regarding court preparation and disclosure - Daily transport of prisoners with supporting documentation between various places of detention, Police cells, and courts - Ensure secure custody of prisoners in court holding cells and at all other locations within court facilities - Retain a log book of remanded prisoners and assure their reappearance on date set by court - Document and record daily activities in notebook - Order and provide and maintain a record of meals for prisoners in custody - Order production orders from Superior Court and the Ontario Court of Justice - Provide information to Probation Officers and CAS as required e.g. criminal record or other for pre-sentence reports - Assist with disclosure material (9-1-1 tapes, photos and evidence) and brief preparation ensuring efficient, complete and timely disclosure - Review and prepare briefs for trial e.g. order certified copies of recogs, probations and driving orders and ensure that CEA notices are prepared and served prior to trial - Liaise with customs and immigration regarding prisoners who may have immigration issues - Ensure security of Judges and all other persons taking part in or attending court proceedings - Responsible in part for courtroom security including but not limited to searching courtrooms, persons in attendance at proceedings, patrolling public areas at court buildings - Check condition of prisoner van, fueling when required and report any deficiencies immediately to supervisor - Serve summons, subpoenas, and other documents as required in accordance with the law and accepted practices - Perform any or all office functions related to the Court Services Unit Other - Ensure that Supervisor is immediately kept apprised of emergency calls, dangerous situations and unusual events - Provide information to employees and members of the public as required - Assist in obtaining forfeiture orders - Provide relief in court in the absence of a Court Liaison Officer or Police Officer - When advantageous to the operations of Kingston Police, accept a lateral transfer to perform other duties within the Force - Provide crime scene security as approved by a supervisor and - Assist with traffic direction under the supervision of a police officer - Perform other duties as may be assigned. **Qualifications**: **Education**: Minimum grade 12 or equivalent. Post-secondary an asset. Must be able to successfully complete all testing for appointment and all five year reappointment requirements. **Experience**: Knowledge of court procedures and applicable laws an asset. **Other**: - Must be exceptionally alert and discrete - Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills - Strong customer service skills - Demonstrated problem solving abilities - Ability to multi task and adjust priorities as required - Excellent organizational skills - Demonstrated experience working in stressful or crisis situations - Must have demonstrated strong
