Reporting to the Superintendent of Water/Sewer this position has the responsibility of the operational and maintenance responsibility to provide safe drinking water for the City of Iqaluit. This position directly ensures quality water is potable and supplied to the public within the City of Iqaluit. The water treatment plant operator ensures the appropriate disinfection to the water and must be tested daily to ensure the chlorine and fluoride levels are kept within a safe range and water is safe to drink. This position ensures cleanliness and allows continual maintenance of every section of the plant and associated boosters, and reheat stations to make sure potable water is available and accessible for the public on a daily basis. This position is focused not only on Health and Safety of the public but also on environmental issues pertaining to the Water Treatment Plant and the distribution system.

**Minimum Education, Experience and Qualifications**:

- High School Diploma
- Water Treatment Level 1 Certification with a minimum of 1 years’ experience
- Class 5 driver’s license
- Confined Space Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months
- Knowledge of DDC Controls and Northern Building Practices,
- Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, electrical and oil burning heating sytems.
- Strong computers skills including MS Office
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with various suppliers and the public.

**Assets**:

- Journeyman plumber or plumbing experience.
- Level 1 Water Distribution Operator
- Class 3 Driver’s License
- The ability to speak and write in one or more of Nunavut’s official languages.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.
