The Opportunity: The Engineering Services department has one opening for a Municipal Engineering Technologist III, also referred to externally as a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist, to join our team and support municipal infrastructure projects. The opportunity will focus on the inspection and acceptance of municipal infrastructure (water, wastewater, stormwater, roads, pathways, sidewalks, etc.) related to development. This includes review and approval of Construction Completion Certificates (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificates (FAC). Accountabilities may include but are not limited to:• Field inspection of potable water, wastewater, stormwater, storm ponds, roads, sidewalks, pathways and overland drainage construction for compliance with municipal standards, approved drawings, and best practices.• Working with land developers and their consultants to resolve deficiencies in constructed works and other items that arise during development related construction.• Ensuring Erosion and Sediment Control measures are installed, as per approved plans, and are maintained in good condition. • Review and approve CCC and FAC applications, including supporting documentation• Review image-based inspections of sewers as part of the CCC/FAC process• Coordinate inspection activities with other City departments as required• Represent Engineering Services in external and internal meetings• Mentor junior staff You Bring: • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution and registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T); or• A Degree in Civil Engineering with designation as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or Professional Licensee (P.L).• A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience related to civil engineering• Candidates that do not meet these minimum requirements may be offered a Municipal Engineering Technologist II or I position.Assets• Demonstrated experience with field inspections/construction of municipal infrastructure such as deep utilities (water, wastewater, and stormwater) and road/surface works• Previous experience reviewing and/or submitting CCC and FAC applications• National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) certification would be considered an asset• Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC) or Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) certification would be considered an asset • Ability to use AutoCAD and related software• A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (or equivalent)• Ability to manage your time to meet deadlines on a variety of projects concurrently• Strong oral and written communication skills• Ability to resolve conflict in a collaborative and productive manner• Willingness to mentor junior staff We Offer: Along with a competitive compensation program and City paid health and dental premiums, our employees also enjoy:• Excellent health, dental, paramedical, and benefits plan• Career development and tuition reimbursement• Employee discounts, gym membership, social events, and health & wellness initiativesContinuous learning through training and development is encouraged as are flexible work arrangements, when possible.
