This Volunteer Placement is Located in: Lima, PeruStart Date: January 2026Placement Length: 5 monthsLanguage Requirements: Spanish and English Level 4-AdvancedPlease submit a Spanish Resume and Statement of InterestOpen to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada onlyThe Volunteer’s Role Cuso International in Peru is on the lookout for a passionate volunteer to assist with Instituto de Defensa Legal (IDL) in amplifying awareness of their Constitutional Litigation Area (ALC) initiatives and legal cases on a global scale. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with IDL’s dedicated team to provide updates on impactful activities, including court rulings and important reports, while partnering with the communications department to maximize outreach through diverse media channels.Your role will involve crafting engaging press releases, capturing compelling media content, and curating social media posts. Additionally, you'll translate communication materials into English for an international audience and help broadcast events through platforms such as Facebook Live. Get ready to collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team on pressing public policy issues related to human rights and justice.As a volunteer, you will:Assist the constitutional litigation area (ALC) team in their efforts.Assess the significance and priority of each task, and collaborate with the relevant personnel to ensure proper allocation.Draft press releases and articles regarding these initiatives for distribution through local, regional, national, and international media.Work alongside the IDL Communications Department to share these activities via the institution's official communication channels.Accompany ALC members during events held in both Lima and the provinces.Devise creative and innovative methods for promoting activities on social media, utilizing both traditional and contemporary platforms.Take responsibility for ALC publications.Build relationships with national journalists and international correspondents, covering both mainstream and alternative media.Develop communication materials and oversee webinars and other public events, including press conferences.Essential Requirements:Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or marketing, coupled with at least 5 years of experience.Essential Background:Demonstrated experience in journalism and communications within NGOs, encompassing published articles, photographs, videos, and more.Familiarity with issues related to indigenous populations, environmental pollution, and climate change.Competence in basic graphic design software and social media proficiency.Experience in photography and basic video production, including filming and editing for dissemination across various media platforms, alternative media, and social networks. It is essential to provide a portfolio showcasing recent work (from the last 2 years), which includes press releases, photographs, videos, written articles, and social media content.Ability to perform effectively under pressure with proven skills in prioritizing tasks.What’s in it for YOU? Pre-placement Training and Briefing - Skills and Knowledge for Working in Development (SKWID) We commit to helping you prepare as best as possible for your placement. You will have a Volunteering Mobilization Advisor (VMA) to support you through the process and will participate in pre-placement training as part of your preparation. You will also have access to self-directed briefing documents, online training, and external resources through the volunteer portal.
