Unit SummaryThe Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Human Rights Department manages strategic initiatives to advance equity, diversity and inclusion across the organization ,system, program and process improvement. Engagement with equity seeking groups to amplify their perspectives and needs in key decision-making processes. Build collaborations across the organization and community to further create a culture of inclusivity and belonging. In addition, they support matters of conflict stemming from harassment, discrimination, and other general human rights issues including investigations. Plan and participate in observance events. Lead EDI training and education sessions. Support employee affinity groups. As well as, create and amend policies regarding Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights.Position SummaryThe Health Equity Specialist is responsible for supporting better health outcomes for equity-deserving populations. The specialist will inform program development, support the organizational approach to health equity including but not limited to data collection and usage. The specialist will engage in inclusive staff community, patient and family engagement to facilitate coordinated approaches that enable co-design, implementation, and evaluation of patient-informed, innovative solutions aimed at reducing inequities in care.This role is temporary until March 31, 2027Schedule Work HoursM-F days. Weekends and evenings sometimes requiredQualifications- Undergraduate degree in Quality Improvement, Health Research Methods, Health Equity, Public Health, Social Work,Health Care Leadership or Public Policy with emphasis on human rights, gender studies, social justice or equity , MastersPreferred- Critical Analysis of Equity Diversity and Inclusion topics in Health Care and experience working with equity-deservingcommunities- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to act as an informal leader, influencing performance driven teamswhile aligning with organization values, setting priorities and undertaking multiple tasks with tight deadlines- Understanding of effectiveness methodologies, change management, project management and process improvementskills- Understanding and experience in Health Equity and Health Care Quality Improvement methodologies- Understanding of adult learning needs and experience developing curriculum and education related to health equity andequity diversity and inclusion- Broad understanding of hospital operations across the organization to inform discussions and creative solutions tobuilding an inclusive community- Experience, knowledge and understanding of concepts related to co-design, patient engagement and communityengagement principles- Understanding of Data Governance and knowledge of First Nations Principles of OCAP and Black Health Equity EGAPframework- Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with a keen ability to engage with variousstakeholders and members of the community, resulting in collaborative partnerships and beneficial results- Strong ability to conduct evaluation, program design, develop plans/procedures/write reports- Ability to be creative and proactive in offering new approaches to problem solve- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic,socioeconomic, and gender backgrounds- Demonstrated emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills; ability to influence an outcome across all levels through aconsultative methodology- Ability to work independently and effectively as leader or member in teams, on task-forces, and committees- Ability to successfully navigate challenging conversations among diverse groups and build consensus- Sound knowledge working with relevant legislation, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarianswith Disabilities Act (AODA), Occupational HealthHamilton Health fosters a culture of patient and staff safety, whereby all employees are guided by our Mission, Vision, Values, and Values Based Code of Conduct.
