Your Opportunity:The Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury is a 48 bed facility that provides care for patients with acquired brain injury through an interdisciplinary approach. The Program is a progressive and expanding service with a commitment to professional development and excellence. Within the Program, reporting to a Unit Manager, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team, with due consideration provided for family and appropriate others. You will also ensure effective operation of the unit when assuming designated responsibilities and contribute to the learning experience of students, staff and patients. As a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse you will utilize the nursing process and demonstrate critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills to provide safe, competent and ethical patient care. You will practice independently and interdependently following the full scope of practice as set out by the College of Alberta Registered Nurses/College Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. By applying on this posting, if you are the successful candidate, you agree to and will become an employee of Recovery Alberta.Description: As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).Additional Required Qualifications: You have a strong clinical background and are familiar with the management of enteral feeds, indwelling catheters, diabetic management, experience with neurological patients or experience with brain injury rehabilitation. You will be physically capable of carrying out duties of this position. This is physically demanding position that requires the RN/RPN to assist with ADL’s including toileting, bathing, dressing, and transferring, re-positioning, escorting patients to and from programs, managing behavioural patients as a result of their brain injury among other duties. Leadership, observation, strong communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in a psychiatric and rehabilitation setting are essential. Complex moderate to severe brain injury patients may be very dependent at time for care needs. Minimum of five years of recent clinical nursing experience.Preferred Qualifications: Previous AHN experience in brain injury rehabilitation. Leadership course work.
