Location: Kearl supporting Kearl In-Pit Tailings ProjectsRotation: Fly-in/Fly-out (14 days on / 14 days off) Position Overview: The Planning and Scheduling Lead (PL) is a specialist in project schedule development, control, and forecasting. This role assesses contractor and company-generated schedules for logic, detail, timing, and alignment with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Current Control Estimate, and Project Plan. The PL establishes schedule requirements and reporting frequencies for contractor deliverables and ensures timely detection of trends and deviations from the plan. Key Responsibilities:Provide leadership and expertise in project scheduling, progress measurement, and change management.Steward contractor project control organization regarding schedule development, control, and progress measurement.Review and endorse contractor schedule baselines, forecasts, and progress reports.Develop and maintain Level 1 and Level 2 integrated project schedules.Advise project leadership on schedule risks and recommend corrective actions and recovery plans.Evaluate schedule impacts of project changes and incorporate approved changes into overall schedule reporting.Ensure contractor scheduling practices comply with project coordination procedures and integrate subcontractor schedules.Monitor contractor performance against baseline schedules and analyze trends to support management decisions.Participate in contract bid evaluations for schedule compliance.Ensure alignment of contractor schedules with external requirements (e.g., permitting, regulatory).Facilitate lessons learned related to scheduling and progress measurement.Promote capital efficiency across projects. Core Site-Based Responsibilities:As a site-based execution planner on a very time critical project (schedule-driven), key responsibility will be to facilitate a daily “war room” meeting with Construction Contractor and Construction Management Team (CMT) at site for closely monitoring of contractors detailed daily plan / FIWP level progress / 3-week schedule, ensuring opportunities and vulnerabilities are understood and mitigated/capturedAssess if field progress reporting by Contractor is accurate – spot checking with field walks and ensuring agreed upon process on Rules of Credit are being adhered toReview of FIWP packages developed by Contractor for completeness. Vet the mapping of FIWP packages to the contractors Level 4 tasks ensuring alignment.During execution, coordinate and facilitate meetings with the Contractor and CMT team when interruptions / changes are introduced to the previously approved packages (i.e., Engineering and Procurement - early advancement or delays, changes to work front release dates, etc.)Understand schedule/execution lagging and leading indicators as submitted by Contractor, and provide expert added interpretation on your anticipation to forecast of progress to Project Management Team (PMT), and Project Owner’s Integrated Schedule (OIS) Scheduler. When needed, provide expert assessment / recommendations on mitigating execution strategies to ensure compliance with Project OIS milestones.Coordinate timely communication of Project OIS progress updates to Construction Contractor, ensuring Construction Contractor Schedule updates incorporate latest information from Project OISAssess all Change Orders from Contractor that carry a schedule impact in a timely manner to quantify schedule impact with a clearly defined delay on Contractor’s Level 4 Schedule and all supporting reasoning for the delay. Use expert judgement to provide recommendations if the delay claimed is reasonable for both cause and impact timeline. Skills & Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.Experience in Planning/Scheduling, Project Controls, or Project Services (oil & gas preferred).Supervisory experience required; prior experience at Kearl or within ExxonMobil/Imperial is an asset.Strong knowledge of Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and FIWP development.Proficiency in Primavera P6 (read-only navigation and logic understanding).Excellent communication and facilitation skills; ability to lead daily contractor meetings.Strong analytical, consulting, and mentoring skills; adaptability to changing priorities.Ability to multitask and respond quickly to urgent requests.Willingness to work overseas or relocate to project sites as required. Preferred Experience:Execution workface planning and commissioning schedule development.Managing subsystem walkdowns, punch tracking, and handovers.Familiarity with contractor schedule control and critical assessment of progress vs. forecast.Require experience effectively working with contractor and owner's team to develop and steward Level 4/5 schedule for a schedule driven project.
