We are seeking a full-time, permanent Power & Recovery Operating Technician within our Power & Recovery Department. Operating Technicians in the Power and Recovery Department are instrumental in the pulp-making and electrical generation process and have the responsibility to ensure their specific area and process systems function properly. Role and Responsibilities: Abide by all safety precautions, government regulations and company policies and procedures related to the safe operation of the department and in compliance with ABSA regulations. Operate and monitor the power and recovery boilers, condensing turbine, extraction turbine, evaporators, lime kiln, recausticizing plant, and related equipment. Operating within a 1st-class steam plant facility, including steam time. Perform routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot, make recommendations and resolve operational issues, ensuring minimal downtime. Responsible for the creation and review of standard department procedures and system lockouts for the process areas assigned. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the power and recovery areas and all associated equipment in order to safely maximize mill production. Use computerized systems to control, start, and shutdown the operation of boilers and equipment. Conduct various quality tests to manage the overall productivity of equipment and to ensure we maintain a high-quality pulp product. Work collaboratively with other departments in the operation and maintenance of equipment. Additional duties, as required. Qualifications and Experience Successful completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of 4th class ABSA certificate is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a 4th class ABSA certificate or greater, and who have experience operating in a Kraft pulp mill environment. Safety-conscious individual who can demonstrate safe work practices with respect to people, equipment, and processes, with an understanding of regulations and workforce legalities. Ability to work a 12-hour shift on a 28-day continuous shift cycle (4 days, 6 off, 3 days, 3 nights, 4 off, 4 nights, 4 off) in a physically demanding setting. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
