Posted 1 month agoPosition SummaryReporting to the Vice President of Student Services & Engagement, The Coordinator of Indigenous Initiatives plays a pivotal role in advancing Northlands Colleges Indigenization Strategy by fostering meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and embedding Indigenous knowledge, culture, and ways of knowing into many aspects of the College.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Coordinator of Indigenous Initiatives duties include, but are not limited to:Provide advice and recommendations to embed Indigenous perspectives for student services and across other College operations.Recommend initiatives to build intercultural capacity across the College community.Strengthen partnerships with Indigenous communities, Elders, Traditional Knowledge Keepers, and organizations.Ensure respectful engagement with Indigenous Elders and cultural advisors.Coordinate the Elders Advisory Council meetings and other events.Oversee the schedule and activities of Indigenous Elders.Evaluate and make recommendations to enhance Indigenization-related procedures, programming, and strategies.Recommend changes to policies and initiatives to align with provincial and federal reconciliation frameworks.Ensure College-wide commitment to Indigenization goals through collaboration with internal stakeholders.Develop and deliver cultural competency training for all College employees.Manage budgets, secure external funding, and allocate financial resources for Indigenous programs.Make recommendations to move College programming to reflect Indigenous cultures, traditions, languages, and histories.Advocate for Indigenous students by supporting culturally relevant student services and land-based learning.Foster a college culture that respects and integrates Indigenous languages, traditions, and protocols.Evaluate the efficiency of Indigenization-related procedures, programming, and strategies.Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including students, faculty, finance, and operations, to recommend changes for College-wide alignment with Indigenization goals.Develop educational programming for staff and students that promotes understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, traditions, and protocols.Lead outreach activities to schools, community organizations, and public events to promote Northlands College programs and services. This includes building relationships with the indigenous and northern communities, representing the College at the cultural and educational gatherings, and supporting initiatives that increases student awareness, engagement, and enrollment.Perform other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesStrong understanding of Treaty rights, Indigenous governance, Language, histories, and cultures.Knowledge of reconciliation, decolonization, and Indigenization frameworks in education.Capacity to engage members of diverse communities and skilled in a variety of engagement techniques, protocols and strategies.Proven time management and organizational skills including the demonstrated ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks and ensure issues are dealt with in a timely fashion.Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Intermediate computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc.Knowledge of reconciliation strategies and northern Saskatchewans socio-economic landscape.Education and ExperienceA post secondary diploma in related field.Minimum two (2) years of experience in Indigenous education, community engagement, or a related area.Demonstrated experience in policy development and program implementation.Experience engaging with Indigenous communities.A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.Additional RequirementsFlexibility to work evenings, and willing to travel including overnight stays, air travel, and travel on gravel roads.Must possess a valid Saskatchewan drivers license.A satisfactory criminal records check is a condition of employmentDeadline for applications is Monday, December 8, 2025.
