COMPETITION # 2025-067RNUMBER OF POSITIONS MULTIPLE VACANCIESPOSITION TYPE PERMANENT, FULL-TIME Reporting to the Unit Supervisor, the Direct Service Worker is responsible for managing both short and long-term case protection and child-in-care files. This role ensures compliance with all Child and Family Services acts, regulations, and standards, while supporting families and prioritizing the safety and well-being of children in alignment with Southeast cultural and community values. RESPONSIBILITES: Providing protection and prevention services to the children and families of the designated First Nations community. Carrying and managing caseloads specific to Family Protection and Children-In-Care with prescribed timelines. Working in and intervening with crisis situations in an appropriate and timely manner. Establishing and maintaining partnerships with community resources for clients as well as team members. Participating in Agency events, training, and working flexible hours as required. Group facilitation; team building and decision-making; taking initiative; problem-solving, leading, planning, coordinating, and facilitating meetings; de-escalating conflict; and provide solutions. Excellent case and file management skills; stress management; time management; and documentation detail (e.g., CFSIS, IM, etc.). Working in a team-based environment as well as independent responsibilities. Willing and able to travel to designated First Nations communities and rural areas as required. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Social Work (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered). A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in front-line case management with Children-in-Care and families. Experience conducting investigations including gathering and analyzing information to implement appropriate action(s). Demonstrated working knowledge of and familiarity with: Indigenous culture and an understanding of the rural cultural environment. The Child and Family Services Act; The Adoption Act; An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth, and families; Indigenous child welfare practices; First Nations history; and colonization. Crisis intervention; child protection investigations; assessment of high-risk situations to determine appropriate response times. Substance abuse; family violence; child abuse/neglect; grief and loss issues; and community resources. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (specific to documentation and report writing). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook), CFSIS, and IM. Valid driver’s license; a reliable vehicle. Satisfactory Criminal Record; Child Abuse Registry; and Prior Contact Check.
