The Recreation Therapist II – Lead provides comprehensive services for clients within the program or service area in which they work. The Recreation Therapist II – Lead is a key member of an inter-professional health team, responsible for delivering and supporting high-quality therapeutic recreation services within Rural South Home Care and Seniors Health programs. This role provides advanced clinical practice, program leadership, and system-level support to ensure that therapeutic recreation services are evidence-based, person-centered, and aligned with organizational standards and best practices. Based on the Continuing Care Case Management Competency Framework you demonstrate ability in the areas of personal and professional accountability, systems thinking, facilitating creative thinking, communicating and building relationships. The Lead supports Adult Day Programs and related Seniors Health services through assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic programming, coaching, consultation, and program evaluation. The successful candidate will foster collaboration, drive best-practice implementation, and contribute to ongoing quality improvement efforts across diverse teams and service areas. The Rural South team is comprised of Diamond Valley, Okotoks, High River, Nanton, and Vulcan. The farthest site is 160km south of the Calgary City Limits. Please note that this position is 40 km south of the Calgary City Limits.Description: As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family. Required Qualifications: Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.Additional Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible member of the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years of clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist and five years in Seniors Health, including adult day programs, home care, supportive living, palliative care, or long-term care. At least three years of leadership experience supporting Adult Day Programs. Demonstrated ability to initiate, model, and promote evidence-based best practices. Strong interpersonal, communication, and team leadership skills, with experience fostering partnerships and facilitating communities of practice. Effective organizational, critical thinking, and systems-thinking abilities; capable of working independently and responding to consults promptly. Proficient in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Connect Care, and virtual platforms. Knowledgeable in Seniors Health standards, protocols, policies, and designated living options. Skilled in program planning, development, facilitation, and evaluation. Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage time effectively in fast-paced environments. Able to handle, move, and lift equipment or individuals up to 40 lbs for client care and program delivery.Preferred Qualifications: Rural practice experience. Experience with experiential and distance learning, consultation, teaching, research, and self-directed learning. Strong assessment, coaching, and adult education skills. Experience with Calgary Zone systems and operations. Connect Care Super User experience.
