As a Wildlife Biologist, you will join our Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta office(s) as part of our Western Ecological Services team. The successful applicant will have the following responsibilities:Active participation in maintaining Montrose strong safety cultureWork with technical team members to execute wildlife programs which would include:Prepare pre-field planning for projects safety planning, mapping preparation, equipment preparation) following Montrose StandardsSupport the field portion of projects in accordance with Montrose Standard Operating Safety and Technical ProceduresConduct wildlife surveys with a focus on breeding bird, nest sweeps, wildlife sweeps, amphibian surveys, and species-at-riskComplete data entry from field surveys and data analysis remote camera photo and acoustic recording unit analysis)Provide field data QA/QC and initial interpretation of field dataWork with technical team members to prepare field summary reports and contribute to the preparation of technical reportsCollaborate with other disciplines including vegetation, soil, construction & preparation and aquatics on field programs and reportingFly in/fly out two weeks on-two weeks off rotation at a northern oil sand mine.Contribute to the generation of technical reportsThis position will include approximately 90%+ travel for field work and 0-10% office workWhat We Are Looking or degree(s) in biology, ecology, or environmental science1-6 years of experience in wildlife assessments and related report preparationWildlife survey experience in one or more of the following: breeding bird, nest sweep, wildlife sweeps, acoustic recording unit and camera deployment surveys, and amphibian surveysVegetation identification and wetland experience are considered an assetStrong safety mindsetWillingness to travel for and perform field work over extended periods of time up to 2 or 3 weeks at a time), requiring overnight stays a work campsAbility to conduct remote work including helicopter work and off highway vehiclesValid driver’s license and experience driving trucks on remote roadsEffective organizational, writing and communication skillsFunction effectively as part of a collaborative teamWhy Choose Montrose?At Montrose you will be part of an amazing community of collaborative people who live shared mission and principles and bring industry-leading technical expertise to their work every day.
