Join North York General to accelerate your career Position Summary Personal Support Worker, Reactivation Care Centre Unit 4/5 Your goal in this position is to assist nursing personnel in providing personal care to residents and perform such procedures and treatments for which you have received special instructions. You will also perform other duties associated with the activities of daily living of the residents. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families. On a practical level, you will Perform all duties in accordance with legislation, the Mission Statement, Organizational Philosophy and Administrative policies and procedures of North York General Hospital Reactivation Care CentrePerform direct and indirect patient care activities in order to carry out the Interprofessional Care Plan. The scope of activities are directed and assigned by the RN/RPN or appropriate multidisciplinary team member.Under direction from a Registered Health Care Provider attends to the personal care needs of the patients including but not limited to: hygiene, grooming and dressing, toileting, recording nutrition and hydration intake, provision of preventative skin careSupports patients’ independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural well-beingWork is moderately heavy involving moderately heavy lifting, walking, standing, bending, pushing and pulling of equipment Communicate effectively with elderly people and colleagues Qualifications Completed Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a College of Applied Arts and Technology Registered and in good standing with The Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA)1-2 years experience in inpatient Geriatric/Rehab or Long-Term Care experience Experience working with patients with cognitive impairment/dementia and experience working with patients who exhibit responsive behaviors preferredDemonstrated Knowledge of Infection Control PracticesDemonstrated aptitude to foster caring and trusting relationships with elderly patients and familiesDemonstrated ability to work well with team membersEffective organizational and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to perform responsibilities in a courteous mannerAbility to function independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast paced environmentCommitment to ongoing education and developmentDemonstrated excellent customer service, organizational and problem solving skills (test will be administered)Excellent Attendance RecordSkilled in Point of Care (POC), preferredAbility to read, write and communicate in English requiredAbility to speak a second language an assetBilingualism in French/English an asset What We Offer Working at NYGH means working with a dynamic team of fellow healthcare providers, staff, and volunteers in one of Canada’s leading hospitals.This is a Part Time Regular position with 8 and 12 hours shifts, All Shifts, days, evening, nights, weekends,(SEIU Only) in the Reactivation Care Centre Unit 4 & 5 at 555 Finch Ave W.We offer a highly competitive total compensation package which includes pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan. #INDO
