GOAPRDJP00000743 - IMT Management Consultant, Strategist and Planner Duration: 1 Year (with possible extension up to 12 months) Location: Remote within Canada (occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton, AB) Project Name Data Management and Geospatial Services Platforms Continuous Improvement Position Overview The Government of Alberta s (GoA) Technology & Innovation (T&I) Ministry is seeking an IMT Management Consultant, Strategist and Planner to lead strategic planning, architecture, and continuous improvement of its enterprise-scale Azure-based Data Management Platform and Geospatial Services Platform. This role provides strategic leadership, technical direction, and hands-on architectural expertise to evolve the GoA s data ecosystems, including Azure, Databricks, Delta Lake, Medallion Architecture, Unity Catalog, and modern DataOps practices. The consultant will collaborate closely with Service Owners, Directors, and senior stakeholders to define roadmaps, implement platform enhancements, introduce AI-driven automation, and ensure secure, scalable data ingestion, governance, and delivery across the enterprise. This position is fully remote but may require periodic onsite meetings in Edmonton, AB. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Leadership & Collaboration Define the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for the enterprise Data Management Platform. Align platform capabilities with business objectives, modernization goals, and AI/data strategies. Partner with Service Owners and senior leadership to prioritize investments and capabilities. Influence enterprise architecture, data governance, platform evolution, and cross-ministry adoption. Expand self-service capabilities and promote consistent, high-quality data products across teams. 2. Technical Architecture & Engineering Execution Architect and implement cloud-native data solutions using Azure and Databricks. Design and optimize Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Medallion architecture environments. Lead development of ingestion/transformation pipelines using: Databricks Azure Data Factory APIs Event Hub Azure Functions Integrations with ServiceNow, Talend, and other enterprise platforms Establish enterprise standards for: Data governance & metadata Security (RBAC/ABAC), encryption, Key Vault, networking DataOps & CI/CD automation Drive performance tuning and cost optimization across data workloads and Databricks clusters. 3. AI Enablement & Automation Identify opportunities to introduce AI-driven automation in data engineering, including: Auto-generated pipelines Metadata-driven orchestration Intelligent data quality frameworks Generative code scaffolding Anomaly detection & observability Lead proofs of concept and assess new Azure/Databricks AI features. 4. Team Enablement & Mentorship Mentor and support platform teams, data engineers, and analytics teams. Provide technical leadership on architectural patterns, pipelines, AI workloads, and integrations. Coach staff on service innovation and modern data practices. Working Conditions Standard Hours: Monday Friday, 08: 15 16: 30 (Alberta Time) Work must be performed within Canada due to network/data security. No travel expenses provided for onsite meetings in Edmonton. Expected onsite attendance: up to 3 4 times per month, depending on project needs. Candidate Qualifications Must-Have Requirements Education Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or a related field. Certifications TOGAF Certification required.
