Position Details Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Research Compliance Services, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Advisor plays a critical role in promoting a culture of safety and compliance throughout the University.Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the University’s Environment, Health & Safety Management System (EHSMS) and enhance overall safety performance. Supporting the development and implementation of new and existing OHS programs, policies, standards, and guidelines in alignment with provincial and federal legislation and best practices. Providing expert guidance and advisory services to academic, administrative, and research units, as well as to various safety committees regarding compliance with occupational health and safety standards, codes, and regulations. Developing and delivering safety programs and training, and supporting injury-prevention initiatives across campus. Investigating incidents and safety concerns; conducting inspections and audits; preparing reports; and recommending corrective actions to support a proactive and collaborative safety culture. Liaising with internal partners and external regulatory authorities to ensure institutional compliance and to facilitate regulatory inspections and audits. The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project. Position Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: An accredited 4-year degree in Natural Sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field), with a minimum of 2 years of OHS experience, OR a 2-year OHS diploma combined with demonstrated experience in a PSI and/or research environment.  Canadian Registered Safety Technician designation or ability to meet Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) eligibility requirements within 2 years. Thorough knowledge and demonstrated application of provincial and federal OHS legislation and best practices. OHS experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Ability to exercise professional judgment, demonstrate a high level of independence and intrinsic motivation, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of and competence in adult learning principles; strong communication skills, including experience delivering training, presentations, and group facilitation. Exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills; adaptable to change. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong organizational and time-management skills, computer literacy, and proficiency in report writing. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.  Preferred qualifications: A 4-year degree in Occupational Health and Safety with a minimum of 3 years of related experience. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation. OHS experience within a post-secondary institution, including knowledge and experience with specialized health and safety procedures and techniques (e.g., laboratory safety, chemical safety). Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $65,153.16 - $81,963.08 annually Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $65,153.16 - $98,772.99 annually (APO - Grade 3)
