SAP ABAP Development Specialist/ S/4HANA Development Consultant

We are seeking an expert SAP ABAP Development Specialist (S/4HANA Development Consultant) to support a major Financial Systems Transformation Project (FSTP) migrating from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA. This role requires extensive, hands-on development expertise across the full spectrum of RICEFW objects in both ECC and S/4HANA, adherence to best practices, and a strong focus on quality and knowledge transfer. The consultant will be integral to the development team, contributing to the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and actively coaching team members. This is a Hybrid role based in Toronto, requiring 2-3 in-person days per week.Advantages- S/4HANA Migration: Play a critical hands-on role in a major financial systems migration to S/4HANA.- Expert Leadership: Utilize and apply 10+ years of comprehensive ABAP experience across ECC and S/4HANA environments.- Mentorship Opportunity: Actively coach and upskill the internal development team, ensuring long-term sustainment.- Hybrid Flexibility: Benefit from a hybrid work model (2-3 days onsite) based in Toronto.ResponsibilitiesThe SAP ABAP Development Specialist will be responsible for:- Development & Unit Testing: Designing, documenting, developing, and performing unit testing for all required RICEFW development objects in both SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC, adhering to current best practices.- SDLC Participation: Participating in all aspects of the SDLC, including initiation, requirements gathering, design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of SAP applications.- Code Quality & Review: Performing code and Quality Assurance (QA) reviews for both client and System Integrator code, using tools like ABAP Test Cockpit or Code Inspector.- S/4HANA Techniques: Utilizing modern SAP development techniques, including Gateway Service Builder (SEGW), Core Data Services (CDS), and ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).- Integration Development: Designing and implementing integrations between S/4HANA/ECC and other systems using IDocs and APIs (OData, REST, SOAP), with knowledge of middleware (CI iFlows) considered an asset.- Coaching & Knowledge Transfer: Providing mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing sessions for development techniques (including RICEFW, Eclipse ADT, BAS, Gitlab) to upskill the internal development team for sustainment.- Documentation: Fully documenting all development deliverables, including technical specifications, technical unit tests, and run procedures.- Support & Sustainment: Supporting defect investigation and remediation during testing cycles and designing processes/procedures (e.g., error handling, monitoring) required to sustain development objects within operations.- Reporting: Reporting status, highlighting risks and issues, and providing recommendations to streamline development.QualificationsMust-Have Experience:- A minimum of 10+ years hands-on experience in ABAP Development (including ABAP Objects and ABAP 7.4/7.5 Syntax) spanning the full RICEFW development spectrum in both SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC.- Extensive experience performing and managing the full SDLC for development deliverables, including comprehensive documentation and knowledge transfer.- Experience mentoring, coaching, and sharing knowledge with developers using tools like Eclipse ADT and assisting with upskilling across various RICEFW development and modern tools.- Experience providing subject matter expertise during requirements gathering, design, and functional specification review.- Experience using project/change management tools such as SAP Solution Manager, Jira, or HPQC.- Demonstrated experience in core SAP Modules: FI, CO, FM, GM, TRM, MM, and SD.Strong technical capabilities in:- Integration (IDocs, APIs - OData, REST/SOAP).- Modern S/4HANA Development (CDS, RAP, Gateway Service Builder).- Enhancements (BADi’s, Exits, BTE’s, etc.) and Forms (SAP Adobe forms).- Code Quality (ABAP Test Cockpit/Code Inspector) and Code/QA reviews.Desired Skills (Assets):- Development related certification.- Experience with Cloud Integration (CI) iFlows or other middleware, and Application Interface Framework (AIF).- Experience with Fiori application development, Business Application Studio (BAS), and Gitlab.- Experience with Embedded Analytics/SAP Analytics Cloud.- Experience with SAP Modules: RE, PM, and HCM.SummaryIf you're interested in the SAP ABAP Development Specialist (S/4HANA Development Consultant) role based in Toronto, we encourage you to apply online at www.randstad.ca.
