You will perform the duties of a Laboratory Assistant including obtaining blood samples and other specimens from patients for diagnostic testing. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness. CollectbloodsamplesbyvenipunctureorbymicromethodusingapprovedproceduresCollectvariousotherspecimensfrompatientsfollowingspecifiedguidelinesResponsiblefortransporting andprocessingallsamplesandspecimensfollowingcompany andgovernmentregulationsPackagingspecimensfordeliveryaccordingtocompanyand TDG guidelinesSortingthespecimensincludingspinningtheblood,pouring-offurineandseparatingthespecimensintodifferentcategoriesConfirmspecimenlabelingiscomplete andaccurateDataentryandverifythecompletenessofallpatientdemographicsandrequisitionsthatare provincialandnon-provincialRoutinedisinfectingofworkareaandequipmentistobecompletedona scheduledbasisResponsibletofollowallrelevant preand/orpostanalyticalQAprotocolsasdescribedinthecompanyQAmanualEnsuresuppliesareproperlyorderedandmaintainedandstockhasnotexceededexpiry dateResponsible to protect their Health and Safety by reporting hazards and working in compliance with standard Safe Working PracticesEnsure patient safety and dignity at all timesMaintain documentation of work-related mileage, as required, and follow Driving & Use of Company Vehicles Policy What YOU bring to the role:You are CSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian)Applicants with a Bachelor degree in a related scientific discipline or nursing, or international MLA or MLT qualification, AND a minimum of 2 year patient-facing phlebotomy experience may also be consideredMinimum of 2 years of experience as an MLAYou are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s healthDemonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring mannerPrioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environmentBe extremely detail orientedProficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patientsMust have a valid driver's license and clean drivers' abstractWork experience in a nursing home is an asset,Working Conditions Normal office environmentMedical laboratory environmentMobile collections: nursing homes, retirement homes, private homes and other facilities as requiredRequired walking with repetitive motionsMay sit or stand for prolonged period of time with extensive computer useRequired to lift a maximum of 30 pounds as requiredExposed to bio-hazardous substances, temperature differences and noise variancesAt times might require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.Carry items up and down stairs, and in and out of buildingsThe hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.Passionate about supporting healthy lives with commitment and care?
