Job Description
The Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics (KCNI) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is harnessing the power of high-performance computing to integrate and analyze the wealth of data generated about the brain. Our research is performed in an open science environment, with an emphasis on reproducible data-driven research and a patient-centric approach to accelerate identification and treatment of mental illness. A focus on global collaboration is key to transforming our understanding of mental health and its treatment. The Centre operates as an incubator for medical technologies to identify, manage and treat mental illness, while shaping policy at national and global levels.
The Laboratory for Computational Genomics within the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics is currently seeking a full-time, contract (1-year) Research Analyst. The successful candidate will assist with ongoing projects to understand how the brain and its cells change in the context of psychiatric and neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, major depressive disorder, and epilepsy. The successful candidate will work with mouse and human datasets that span multiple data types, including single-cell genomics datasets and cellular electrophysiology and electronic health record data. This position is located at 250 College Street.
The primary responsibilities of this position will involve:
- Analyzing diverse data types, including single-cell genomics and cellular electrophysiology
- Writing computational scripts to automate data analysis, including in Python, R, and the Unix shell
- Participating in data quality control and contributing to novel data analyses using computational tools
- Maintaining high quality online documentation for computational tools and analysis workflows
- Communicating with and assisting team members in collaborative projects
- Participating in scientific report writing, including of drafting grant proposals and publications
- Assisting with routine administrative tasks, including meeting scheduling and preparing data use agreements
- Contributing to a lively lab and group environment
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree (e.g., Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Biology, Genetics, Computer Science) with 1 year of previous relevant experience working in a research environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for how basic research can transform our understanding of the brain and improve our treatment of its disorders.
Experience writing open source computational scripts for data analysis (especially R or Python and Unix/shell) is required. Evidence working collaboratively in a team setting is an asset. Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills and working collaboratively in a team setting are strong assets. Experience with molecular biology (such as qPCR or RNA-sequencing) or bioinformatics is a plus but is not required.
The ability to independently manage multiple tasks and prioritize conflicting priorities is required. The successful candidate must have strong time management, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to think creatively with a focus on results and outcomes is preferred.
