The Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Planning Ultrasound-based Thermal Therapy.

Job Description

The NeuroFUS laboratory in the Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in the area of Planning Ultrasound-based Thermal Therapy in collaboration with the Canadian Company Profound Medical (Mississauga, ON) under a MITACS Accelerate project. This project will focus on improving the planning of procedures for transurethral thermal ablation using advanced numerical modelling, image segmentation and co-registration, and machine learning.

The successful applicant must have excellent technical communication skills and have a strong background and track record of achievements in the modelling of ultrasound acoustics and its bioeffects. This project has a strong industrial collaborative component, as the selected applicant will have to interact on a regular basis with Research Scientists at Profound Medical, a world leader in the area of minimally invasive procedures to treat prostate tissue under Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) guidance.

To be eligible for this postdoctoral appointment, the applicant must normally have received a postgraduate doctoral degree or its equivalent awarded within the three years immediately preceding the effective date of a postdoctoral appointment, with allowance made for leaves of absence. This position is initially for one year, with the strong possibility of renewal for two more years for a total of three years, subject to performance and continued funding.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Medical Imaging, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics or equivalent, obtained in the last three (3) years
  • Research experience with a clear track record in modelling ultrasound acoustics and its bioeffects is a must
  • General knowledge of MRI is a must, with a desirable advanced knowledge for MRI specific to prostate tissue
  • Knowledge of image processing techniques such as segmentation and co-registration is a must
  • Experience in Physics-informed Machine learning or Machine Learning in general is desirable
