The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is recruiting an Adult ESL instructor to teach in a continuing education non-credit ESL and/or LINC class at our City Centre site.

Summary:

Reporting to the ESL/LINC Program Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible to instruct English as a Second Language to adult CLB 1 & 2 learners. A candidate is needed on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:23 to 8:30 pm.

Base Wage: $36.90 or according to the OSSTF-ESL Collective Agreement.

Qualifications:
  • Current TESL Ontario Certification (OCELT) is required.
  • Completion of CLB Bootcamp and Introduction to PBLA from the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (recommended within 6 months of hire into casual pool and required for hire into a permanent day or night position).
  • Knowledge and experience with the Canadian Language Benchmarks.
  • Knowledge and/or application of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with teaching colleagues, administrative staff, and the management team.
  • Excellent practice and knowledge in the principles of adult learning.
  • Demonstrated experience using Learning Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience using technology as a teaching and learning tool.
  • Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills.

Candidates must complete a successful classroom observation before hire into a permanent position.
