Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is committed to creating an inclusive environment that will be a place of belonging and interconnectedness for all faculty, staff, students and members of the TRU community. In support of this, the Intern, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism (EDI & AR) will develop supports for students on campus to help them navigate TRU in a way that promotes EDI & AR across campus with a goal of bringing students from diverse backgrounds together.



MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and coordinates EDI & AR programming that align with the university’s strategic direction and the department’s strategic plans, to assist student development.
  • Supports the development in updating of workbooks, with an emphasis on EDI & AR concepts, in collaboration with TRU World and Enrolment Services.
  • Designs, organizes, and facilitates presentations and workshops related to promoting EDI & AR concepts, competencies, and supports for students.
  • Organizes events for students across campus to promote connection and collaboration of students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Provides coaching and support to students on issues and concerns related to EDI & AR, referring issues to the Manager, or Executive Director of EDI & AR as necessary.
  • Provides clear communication using a variety of mediums to inform to students, faculty and staff about EDI & AR initiatives and programs offered
  • Explores current trends and best practices in the field of EDI & AR in order to promote an inclusive campus environment and support student success.
  • Participates in relevant committees and working groups to initiate and build student engagement and success related to EDI & AR.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field


EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years' experience working with populations of students and/or youth, including:
    • Experience coaching and mentoring youth
    • Experience working with relational database software
    • Experience working as part of a team, specifically in a case management environment
    • Experience with one-to-one tutoring/academic coaching


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Knowledge and understanding of equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to deal with students, faculty and staff with courtesy, discretion and tact
  • Ability to use judgement to assess and coach students effectively and discreetly
  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) applications at an advanced skill level as well as online meeting platforms
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work

**This is an Intern position for students/staff who have graduated from a program at TRU within the last 12 months and is paid at 80% of the pay rate.**
