Providence is a vibrant, registered charity with a long-established history of providing therapeutic and
educational services to families across our 6 schools and childcare facilities in Calgary. Our programs are
designed to support young children who may not be meeting typical developmental milestones. Providence
provides the opportunity to enhance the health and development of children and their families.

We are currently seeking an energetic and dynamic individual with a passion for working with young children

to join our program as a Teaching/Therapeutic Assistant (TA) for the 2024-2025 School year. The hours of

work are 8 AM – 4 PM (Monday to Friday) and will be working with children in childcare facilities in all

quadrants of the city. This position requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license and you must be willing to travel.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is able to work independently in the community to support children in their childcare centres.
  • Broad background in working with and teaching children with complex needs.
  • Children are busy and active – so you are too. Adaptability is important because every day will be

different and you will have to navigate your way through rapidly changing environments with

enthusiasm, problem-solving skills and humour.

  • Flexible, curious, creative, and able to multi-task in our ever-evolving world in pediatrics.
  • Enjoys working with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver child-focused services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Act as a representative and ambassador of Providence in the larger community.
  • Implement and monitor educational and therapeutic goals in community childcare programs under the
direction of the LEARN Teacher to meet the needs of the children’s Individual Program Plans.
  • Collect and report data based on observations of children on the caseload.
  • Prepare and implement learning materials to enhance programming for children. Assist in the planning
and implementation of childcare programs.

  • Maintain and demonstrate awareness of, and sensitivity to, underlying behaviour which contributes to

children’s performance.

  • Maintain open and positive communication with parents.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education from an Educational Assistant Program, Disabilities Studies Program or

equivalent.

  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and $2,000,000 liability insurance.
  • Must be willing to travel within Calgary.
  • Pediatric experience in community-based programs is preferred.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Brain Story Certification by the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative.
  • Experience working with children that display challenging behaviour or have disabilities.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Personal suitability NOTE: This position requires lifting and carrying demands that require the ability to
bend at the waist, stoop, and twist frequently, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, the ability to carry, push and
pull up to 50 lbs, and the ability to stand, walk and sit frequently.
